A beautiful afternoon here, wall to wall sunshine and mild. I'm trying not to be led into a false sense of security. Cut back the dogwood and pruned back and tied in clematis. Did some weeding as well.
I was actually able to sit on the bench and appreciate the snowdrops, Narcissi, hellebores and pulmonaria. Several large bees bumbling about and the birds singing as well. I know there is still a way to go, but Spring is definitely on the way now.
I'm rather jealous @AnniD. I tried to do some gardening this afternoon but got rained upon - hard. I had to quickly gather up all my tools, jump out of the flower bed and belt back up to the house, absolutely drenched.
You're right though, Spring is on its way, our purple leaved cherry tree looks beautiful and I even have one or two blossoms on the magnolia stellata. I have however been reading some of my previous garden diaries which have some horrendous March weather recorded in them and even some April snow one year. Will have to wait and see what happens this year.
I chopped a pile of Ceanothus that hasn’t made the bin yet, did a bit of weeding, pruned a dwarf conifer and generally pottered about. The sunny skies gave way to a big downpour about 1pm so big dash to rescue washing and I got soaked. Brightened up again at 2pm but washing never did quite dry.
Hello , something went wrong with posting Was going to allotment this morning but raining , cleared up so did some jobs in garden and greenhouse , in fact the sun come out
I managed an hour of weeding. No one else would know I had done anything but I know! It is hammering down with rain now, and gusty. It hasn't reached storm level yet but no gardening today. My first narcissus bulbicodum has opened, and lots more buds coming.
13 degrees, heavy rain and wind here. The mild temps of late have lots of things putting on growth.
Sat by the window I can see growth on the hydrangea, roses and clematis. Plum tree is starting to bud and there is growth on the Astrantia, Brunnera and hardy geraniums. Tulips are popping up, Photinia pink crisps has a flush of new leaves and the pulmonaria is starting to flower.
I am itching like mad to get out and start cutting back and tidying up. I had to stop myself from feeding and mulching yesterday. Unfortunately it's too early yet, the constant rain means the ground is soggy and unworkable, and we are due freezing overnight temps at the back end of this week.
How frustrating 😤
Slowly building a wildlife garden, in a new build in East Yorkshire.
The rain is hammering down at the moment. I replenished the bird feeder yesterday and noticed the pond is full to overflowing which in my garden means the water table must be very high. It is far too wet to be outside. Everything is sprouting and shooting, hopefully any frosts will not be bad enough to damage new growth.
