As the temperature has double today went out and cut back some long rose stems, plus the straggly hot lips before the wind really picks up and it gets wet.

I bought two reduced priced plants at the GC this morning as well as a reduced price forst proof blue glazed pot for one of them. An Olearia phlogopappa 'Spring Bling' and a Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light' for a new project I thought about overnight. I do enjoy instant gardening especially at this time of year to cheer myself up.

When I got home, I did a quick tidy up of the area I want to put the pots in (to help hide my work area) but have kept the plants inside the porch whilst the storm hits. Wish I'd thought to move a 'heavenly bamboo' into a more sheltered spot on the terrace but it's pelting down with rain and very windy now so it will have to take its chances.

Got the greenhouse cleaned out and in the final stages of getting the bubble insulation on in readiness of starting sowing seeds very very soon. Invested in wireless temperature and humidity sensors, wireless plugs and a digital thermostatic to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the heating and propagators.
  • Hi everyone, I hope you are all safe and sound after last night.
My sister on the Isle of Wight lost 2 fence panels, small beer compared to Scotland. I heard some big booms when strong gusts hit the end of my cottage but no damage anywhere. It is quite a pleasant morning, gusty, large broken clouds with sunshine and dry before the next load of rubbish weather comes in.
    No gardening was done.
My ginger lilies look a mess because I leave the dead stems as protection but they have been flattened. Not the end of the world.
  • @Waterbut thank you for that advice!  I've never used grow bags, so that's good to know.

Sounds like some of you have been dealing with some crazy storms, hope everyone is ok!

We'll finally climb to above zero temperatures this week, so I was thinking of pruning a small crabapple tree in my front pasture.  I've never done so before, so I'm watching lots of videos and reading as much as I can.  The good thing is this is a tree I found while clearing an overgrown area, so I have nothing invested if I mess it up.

All ok here @Joyce Goldenlily, glad you're ok as well. I've actually been out and played around with one of my new plants, the Olearia and it's blue pot. Couldn't quite make up my mind where best to place it so moved it back and forth a bit. Didn't want to actually plant it in its pot and then have to move it as it would have been too heavy.
Got rained on so have abandoned any more for today.

I spent about three hours today doing an early tidy up. Many of my grasses are dry and brittle now so the wind distributed them all over the lawn and borders last night! I cut back the main culprits to ground level, retrieved all the bits and binned them. I also trimmed some perennials back which no longer looked good and raked the lawn to remove a large patch of moss, plus some leaves, twigs and other bits. It looks better now, the bin is full and is being collected tomorrow!

Had to replace the rotary line today , thought it would easy take old one out and put new one in , unfortunately had to take the concrete pot out of ground and do a new one
Then decided to cut old frame up to use at allotment , having a beer to recover

Yesterday worked in greenhouse repotting plants , which went well

I knew I was missing something, I need to add that step to my gardening/landscaping endeavors. ;)
