Found out it wasn't actually raining after lunch, just looked like it was so decided to trim NDN's hedge back which runs alongside our driveway fence. They never cut it and it's a mixture of shrubs including a rather tall pyracantha (how tall can they get?) and several old buddelias. Quite enjoyed the fresh air and exercise.

Hello , went to allotment this morning , picked some cabbage and spread bags  of shredded Holly tree on path , kept drizzling so came home
Been nice weather at home so trimmed some hawthorn hedges & jasmine
    Still lots to do

  • My new glasses were delivered yesterday There is a world out there without badly scratched lenses!
Had a telephone call informing me my request for an Xray had been refused because I had changed surgeries. Surely it could have been transferred to my my new one?

  • No gardening going on here.
Still feeling rough. Have to repeat a specimen test for the third time, no reason given for the refusal of the first two. I have been referred for a scan. The Dr. I saw this time suggested diverticulitis, really tired and fed up. I have been given permission to stop taking a tablet which I have been told is not a statin but has brought my cholesterol level down by several points in the space of a few weeks. It will be interesting to see if that makes any difference as I have tried taking statins in the past and had severe side effects from them.
Pooch doesn't understand why I am not walking him each day, poor chap.

I hope everyone else is OK.

I had a bit of trouble with getting a specimen test done @Joyce Goldenlily It turned out that they hadn't got it there in time, so it was useless, so I had to do it again. Which is not good when it takes all your energy to get it there in the first place! I feel for you.
I too came off a statin after it made my hands shake worse. Now not sure when or if I will restart as waiting to see if B12 injections will repair damage to the nerves, but that will take six to twelve months I am told.
  • For many reasons we haven't been in the garden apart from collecting veg/fruit. This morning we had a go at refinding several areas....the herb garden, the globe artichoke area, under the outdoor grapes, among the pebble area below the fig and cut back the lovely fuschia that did insist on taking over the path so we were always wet when we went by! Tied back the pumpkin (again wants to grow on another path) and collected more old green gages (best harvest ever).

@bertrand-mabel , our fig tree at allotment has put on so much growth this year will need a major prune , even more figs than normal but I suspect very few will ripen

It was as much as I could do to drive to the surgery and back home.
I tried statins when the cholesterol fad started many years ago. I had different side effects with each one, I tried four before being sent to see a specialist who told me side effects from statins was a fact of life and I would have to learn to live with them. I made the decision not to take them. A few years later I moved home and my new Dr. asked me to try one designed for people intolerant to statins, I tried it but developed severe joint and muscle pain so I stopped that one.
i was so relieved when I took my last test in, they noticed I needed to fill in a label attached to the tiny container. It ended up with 2 receptionists trying to write on the label for me, we tried two different biros with not much success.
At least it isn't just me! Fingers crossed 3rd time lucky.

@Joyce Goldenlily @purplerallim have you tried plant sterols?  Supposed to be just as effective as statins but in a slightly different way.  I take the Healthspan version but no doubt other makes are available :D
  • Refound the onions! After many weeks of not being able to keep the veg area under control it went out of control. So this morning we cleared an area and harvested the onions (had already harvested the shallots many weeks ago). The radishes had all gone to seed and the whites caterpillars were having a great time. All taken up now. Then tackled the old broad bean and pea area. Took out all the sticks and did a mammoth weed. Still loads to do but forecast for the next few days not good so will concentrate on doing veg/fruit in the kitchen.
