@Joyce Goldenlily . My alarm bells are ringing but I don't want to alarm you, I think you are right to be a bit concerned. I also think £20 per hour per person (or was that £20 for the couple per hour?) is too much, although it does depend of course on their level of expertise and skill. I am paying my new gardener £15 per hour here in Bath which has always been an expensive area.

It isn't easy to trust people these days.

I do hope you recover soon from your stomach upset, please do not hesitate to ring 999 if you feel worse. My surgery rang me again out of the blue at lunchtime to tell me to cut down on the codeine if I can, as it can cause dizziness and low blood pressure.

Have you been checked for gall bladder trouble @Joyce Goldenlily I was left for years with stomach problems that they said was just indigestion/IBS . Hope you feel better soon.
  • Been picking blackberries, cutting chard, tying in raspberry canes, clearing up the dropped apples, and generally tidying up. It was too hot (for me) here in the SE today, to do anything that required effort.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Finally got most of my grass cut. Parts look like a ploughed field but at least it's down a bit. I have wheel tracks and slidey bit's and I had to do some with the back off because the mower just kept blocking but it looks almost normal again! Hurrah!

I had my gall bladder removed several years ago because like you I was left for years with stomach upsets, finally rushed into hospital as an emergency. I was told I would be a day case with keyhole surgery. Ended up having a 4 hour procedure and a weeks stay in hospital. I have been fine since.

I too was taken in as an emergency @Joyce Goldenlily ,  but kept for a week on meds as no room for me to have op then. Had to wait a month to get all the pre op done and op. Then back in a week later with another flair up for a week. Unlike you things have never got better,  still having trouble eating and stomach problems.

The going rate for any work done down here is £20.00. per hour.  It will be interesting to see if she calls back again. What I didn't like was that I had to be very pointed about whether it was £20,00 per hour for the two of them or £20.00 per person for the hour. I finally pinned her down to admitting it was £20.00 each person per hour so in reality, £40.00 per hour for the two of them.

I have to wait until after the week end for the results of the tests I did last week. When I called 111 and then 999 before I was admitted to hospital, I spoke to Drs. on each call and both said the same thing, we will refer you to your GP. It was another 24 hrs. before I was offered an appointment to see a Dr. Which is where I started asking for help. Fortunately he was on the ball and realised I was having a heart attack. I did in fact have a call from my surgery 3 weeks to the day after being admitted to hospital, offering me a telephone consultation with a GP. When I asked what it would be for she said I had called saying I was having difficulty in breathing. I told her I had already had a week in hospital and had been put under the care of a cardiac nurse. Silence. Oh! Shall we leave it there then? I have now changed surgeries and am being looked after really well.
I resorted to thinking about old fashioned remedies for stomach upsets and put myself onto lightly cooked eggs, made myself a version of egg nog yesterday. A beaten raw egg, from my neighbours free range chickens, beaten into a mug of hot milk thickened with a little cornflour and hey presto, it definitely soothed my stomach.
I take it all back. Have just had a call from the surgery saying nothing to worry about but they want another blood test done next week, my blood protein levels are slightly high and a further specimen test to be done so some progress is being made.

As today is the last before another cold blast I am going to try and get outside to give my lavender a haircut, it will give it a chance to begin growing new shoots ready for next year. It has been really lovely this year, the bees have loved it.

The symptoms are horrible aren't they? The pain is indescribable, right along the bottom of your ribs, around your side and up the back? Feeling sick and paralyzed with the pain. I had a young trainee surgeon who started my op. thinking it was going to be a quick run of the mill 1 hr. in and out op. Poor woman, she ended up rooting around my inside for 4 hrs. Probably missed her tea break. She told me it was quite satisfying to have to deal with a problem, as long as it didn't happen too often. It doesn't sound right you are still having pain.

Glad you sound better @Joyce Goldenlily. Look after yourself and don't overdo the gardening!

Today I am cleaning house ( daughter visit) and found that after cleaning two sinks and two toilets I was in pain, shaking,  and feeling rough ( also had to run 😊🫣) its the bending that gets me. That's why the garden is in such a mess, it's so slow going.
I got a two for one op, as they repaired a hernia too @Joyce Goldenlily
