Anyone done any gardening today? Part 5

  • No gardening. Chucking down with rain again! And blowing a hooley again!
I am facing a dog walk, not on the beach I may say. I am on the final lap to Christmas. I began my Christmas last night with a glass of mulled wine, a sausage roll, some homemade cheesy biscuits and chocolate-coated brazil nuts! I was bushed, I made myself push through, wrapped the last presents then collapsed in a chair.I even slept the sleep of the exhausted, all night for a change. Lovely.

My daughter has given me a Christmas table decoration which she made with a mirror plate, various greenery, and twinkles with a huge amaryllis bulb standing in the centre with a large flower bud rising from the middle of the bulb. It looks just like a candle. Original as the bulb has been dipped in scarlet wax. The care tag says no need to plant the bulb in compost, just let it grow. My concern is it will be top-heavy when the flower stem grows and am I supposed to bin the bulb after flowering? It will have had no food or water, not sure I can do that to a plant. I think I am going to pot it up.

I hope everyone has a lovely day.
    Happy Christmas!
  • No gardening today.
    Blowing a gale, again.
    Torrential rain, again.
No dog walk either, he refuses to go outside at the moment. Very wise.
My good intention is to make another start on throwing out, tidying up and cleaning corners.
We shall see how far I get in my plans.

Same here @Joyce Goldenlily, I'm not sure about the decluttering idea though, I've got mountains of bed linen to wash!

  • Been outside, to clear up leaves that had BLOWN into a corner in the front garden. I decided to use my useful bucket,

    to carry said leaves.
Once full, 'twas easy to transport the first batch of leaves to the compost bin.
    OH YES?!!😵‍💫
I only put the bucket down in order to remove the lid from the compost bin, and WHOOSH, that gentle wind blew the bucket over, and deposited the contents ALL OVER THE ######  PLACE.
Oh well, I guess it was good exercise, and certainly fresh air.
Repeat the clear up, only this time in the back garden, with OH watching from the conservatory, having a laugh!!

Oh dear @rowlandscastle444, I sometimes do that as well, not helped by our sloping back garden path, guaranteed to tip things over.

You might want to think about a leaf bin though, much better to keep them separate and make lovely leaf mould than to put them in a compost bin. If you haven't got one in your new garden, you could just stuff the leaves in bin bags and puncture the bags with a fork. Works just as well.

  • The first job on my list is done.
Cleaned my aquarium and did a partial water change. The fish are now checking out the new arrangement of the bog root and waiting for their tea.
Made some broccoli and blue cheese soup.

Nothing gets between me and my homemade soups. They are mine, mine, mine.
