Put all the plants that needed to be protected over winter from the shed to my new cold frame. Put a lot of seedlings into my walk in green house and put lids over them just in case. put more seeds in but keeping them in the house just incase. Pulled a few weeds, blow up the pressure washer so had to go out and buy a new one. Only came in because it turned cold, wind and the sky has come over dark.
GWRS wrong sort - of sewing = stitching or sowing = seed sowing (not that I can spell much) sounds great nice to get seeds started off, my lettuce is up
Continued removing turf for the new beds I am creating. Edging next to the grass paths with terracotta pavers. Feeling satisfied but with a sore arm. 😊
Yesterday was a bit too windy to be nice sitting-out weather, which was a shame as my spring garden has never looked better (to me). Hopefully I haven't compromised the summer garden by increasing the spring interest.🤔
One of my new roses appears to have died, the growth has all crumpled back. We have had 4 frosts this week but not sure if that is the cause, have contacted the rose factory for advice.
Cut down the penstemon border, doesn't look any less full and then decided to go nuts and chop off the hydrangea heads. The new growth is frost damaged anyway. Mowed and edged the lawn, picked out the daisies for a daisy path I'm trying to create (more difficult than I imagined).
Planted some daffs (Spellbinder) I had in a pot, the ones in the little photo above. Decided they were good enough to keep in the garden and thought I'd get them in before the space gets swallowed up by perennial growth. Moved a pink drumstick prim from the cows and oxlip area and found a space in the pond for a marsh marigold tiddler I've been bringing on in a pot. That's 7 of them now, probably enough but should look amazing in a few years. To folk who like bright yellow anyway😀
Frosty start here but wind is picking up. Extending the small patio, splitting Bamboo and have two trellis to make, then if time sow a few more seeds and dig out a few more Spanish Bluebells.
Bitter cold here this morning. Despite that, I emptied the barrel pond and put it by the bins ready to chop up and get rid of. We have a proper pond now and it was getting neglected. Watered the pots and greenhouse plants first thing so they would have time to dry up a bit before night time temperatures. Held the ladder for hubby who is painting the front of the house. Have come in now, it's just too cold for any more gardening.
Thanks AnniD, I picked over the compost very carefully and don't think there were any more vw grubs left, so threw the compost under the wall in the sleeper bed. I believe they don't survive in the open ground as they themselves get eaten. I chopped down some more forsythia, tried to use an axe on a stump but had to give up. Coincidentally the latest GW mag had an article on pruning forsythia - mine doesn't look anything like the pics! Don't really care whether it lives or dies. Then I tried chopping back the viburnum which had branches growing through a chain link fence will has to be removed soon. It's also cold here so have retreated indoors.
Did go to the allotment this morning to complete a task fitting new security bars over the shed doors, I started yesterday then the battery in the drill died on me, my fault been using it all week putting the shed up then tool hooks etc just had a senior moment and never thought about it going flat. Anyway got that completed did a little watering had a chat with some new people just taken a plot opposite mine then came home out of the chill.

Just relaxed most of today, which was lovely - however OH painted the back gate early this morning as rain could come tomorrow - garden needs it as the easterly wind has dried out the top soil over the past few days. We also walked the wild flower field with camera at the ready but nothing new to photograph this week. We still have a leaking waterfall/stream which is so annoying as we really don't know where the leak is. Received a small batch of mature tadpoles from a friend - read that we shouldn't be removing them from one pond to another - too late - is this really true?
