Removed the lower leaves from the tomatoes, watered and fed them. Watered the containers and the acers, so many deaths in my pots. My garden is a sea of weedy grass. The result of my not being able to do any gardening earlier on. The perennials are peeping through, doing their best to grow and flower. Pods on my 12 inch pea plants, spindly runner beans but lots of flowers, a new variety to me, Princess Diana, onions struggling, courgettes doing nothing, just lots of male flowers on tiny plants. I had a furtle around the bottom of my potato plants and found 3 to have with my dinner, delicious.
The constant battle with weeds this year is nearly overwhelming. I like you @Joyce Goldenlily last year could not do much in the garden because of health, and this year am marginally better, but still struggling. The poor hubby did his best, but they do say one year weed, three year seed, and it is probably true, as there is an explosion of them this year. Between weeding we have tomatoes starting to ripen in the greenhouse, so they were fed, Cucumbers to pick ( 25 mini's to date) and the last of the strawberries picked , a total of 4 and a half pounds, good year on a small area. Just starting to pick the spring onions and beetroot.
No gardening today, except picking redcurrants and blackcurrants. Also managed to fit in making a batch of raspberry jam, which my wife will appreciate.
Been to allotment today , picked my Broad Beans which have done well this year ,gave some away & o/h will freeze a load More raspberries for breakfasts , gooseberries for crumbles , courgettes & potatoes
Yesterday , I sorted through the garlic which has dried nicely , not a brilliant crop , also the shallots that we would pickle , which was extremely poor this year , not even enough for a jar , o/h will use them for cooking
Looking at the onions at allotment , are not looking that good !
Not posting much as unable to garden at the moment. Trying to find a gardener to come and help. OH does his best but this is a large garden and as everybody says, the weeds are multiplying fast.
Took some water out of full butts, as more rain expected today. Removed lower leaves from the tomatoes, as they were tatty and getting in the way of watering. Picked fourth Sunchocola, this one has made it to the kitchen as hubby at work.😆 with some spring onions and a cucumber. Out in the front garden deadheaded the roses for the second time, and the clematis Piilu, trying to see if I can encourage more growth. A bit windy here but not cold, so some jobs will have to wait.
Put trusses on bunches of tomatoes to give support as the tomatoes are getting larger and larger. Went to my daughter's and watered their greenhouse while they are on holiday. Did a very little bit of weeding. So easy! The ground is so dry.
I would like to find a local gardener who knows what plants are, as opposed to weeds. I had one chap who went around the garden with his strimmer like a whirling dervish. A real "slash and burn" character. He was really pleased with his efforts. I booked a company to come and mow my lawns while I was out of the country for a month. Beginning 2 weeks after the day I left, me having mown them last thing. I had asked neighbours to keep an eye on my home during my absence. The company turned up the day after I left, didn't come back until the day after I arrived home and tried to charge me for 3 visits. I refused to pay and didn't hear from them again after my letter of refusal. Another man came to repair a stone wall and told me he had put a plant back in the wall for me. A huge thistle! A female told me she only came to your garden and advised what to plant where, then you had to find someone to do the work. A consultant in effect. That all put me off looking anymore. I have no idea what the going rate for charges is now, it was £10.00 per hour.
