I potted on the tomatoes from the six inch pots to buckets.  Given the state of compost coming in bags, I've used my own  2 yr old compost with a handful of BFB in each.  It actually looks better than Levington pro M3, which last year I had difficulty wetting after it got dry. I've put the cosmos out to harden off.

Watered the spuds and painted the gravel boards if that counts.

  • Cut down and shredded the last of the brambles. Now onto filling rubble bass with concrete/stones.

I completed potting up the dahlias (needed to get some more compost first).

Hello , spent Bank Holiday weekend doing a new sitting area in garden that gets the shade in the morning , in case we get another heat wave like last year
O/H is going to sand it down and repaint as this bench isn’t Teak , will put a picture on when finished
Very please with result as ground is not level
We had some rain last night & some drizzle this morning , should do the garden / allotment some good , just need that sun again

I have a zillion plants to plant - most grown from seed but some bought-  but low energy and a full time job (with several days a week in the office) so am trying to plant out a few things a day, if I am able. So that's what I did late afternoon after work. Cosmos, cerinthe, calendula, cornflowers, an eryngium (for some reason I don't have much luck with these), China asters, a thylactrum and a few others. I have lots more calendula to go and various things still to be hardened off. Also watered seedlings with some stuff that's supposed to deter slugs and snails.
My French beans are not looking at all happy since I planted them out. Not dead but all the lower leaves have died. And they were such healthy-looking plants. I can't decide whether to direct sow (there is still time), replace with bought ones or wait and see. I suppose the first option would be wisest? I can always pull them up if the originals pick up and they are competing iwth on another...
I think I will risk leaving my tomato plants outside tonight.

I just tidied up what I call the Cherry tree bed which is slightly raised with sleepers in front of a wall. Although I mulched it with bark mulch, the celandines just went mad, they've now gone over and dried out. My new Winchester Cathedral rose is blooming for the first time which I'm hoping will be okay as it's slightly under the tree. OH banged a stake in for it as it's already trying to lean forward and I'll put another layer of mulch down tomorrow after a thorough watering.

  • Put French climbing bean seeds on a wet tissue to hurry germination. Something has dug up and run off or eaten previous sowing from a container (I suspect it's the pigeon, he's been trying to balance off a bird feeder so he might be ambitious enough to rob a container). So annoying, but I'm cussed determined to grow my own. This time I'm going to surround the beans with voile, not even a tiny slug can get through that.

Pleased to see parsnips are up, they were sown around 2nd April, was thinking I'll need to re-sow them too. Why can't all seeds be like rocket? Think rocket is even quicker than radish to germinate, their name may provide a clue.

Now it seems the continual round of watering every morning, to be honest I love watering in the morning, it means I can get a good look how plants and seeds are faring.
I would suggest mice have dug up your beans. I cannot start any beans or peas off outside. I have to grow them indoors until the first leaves have developed and then plant them out. Last year I lost the whole crop of my sweetpea seedling by putting them outside to harden off too early. Everyone was dug up, pea eaten, leaving the stems behind.

I've had the opposite problem with French beans. Started some off in the conservatory,  a failure in all but two ( blame the compost)  Two weeks ago put these two outside in their final spot, and planted seeds against the wigwam at the other corners, two to a cane. They came up perfectly,   only to be slug damaged or completely eaten. 🙄 so now I have two plants romping away,  and 12 chewed ones 🤷‍♀️
