I'm very slowly but surely getting my planting done. Was hoping to get everything that's ready to be planted done today but the best laid plans of mice and men are oft thwarted by a cat whose chosen snooze spot is right where you need to be. Got some more ammi Visnaga in as well as some penstemon Raven and rudbeckia Enchanted Embers. Wanted to get the remaining ammis in as well as the snapdragons but hopefully I can get that done tomorrow although I'm having a tooth out tomorrow morning so I'm not counting on it.

This morning I just did half an hour or so tying a climbing DA Claire Austin to its supports and deadheaded the nearby irises again - a daily job now. Then I decided to ditch an old completely potbound phormium because I'd rather save the rather expensive large pot so I've cut all the leaves off, will drench it in glyphosate and cover it with plastic to keep the rain off. I haven't got the strength to try to hack it out so I'm hoping my method will work.

  • I potted on the Nicotania, Sneezwort and Yarrow seedlings that I had sown as replacement in case the ones in the bed don't work. But with rising temperatures, the already planted ones start growing. I will put the new Yarrow plants in front of the house. I had discovered this week that my both thistles were taken by a neighbour. This is good, I can observe how they behave. I decided against planting them as I had simply no space for a plant that takes a meter.
I also watered the garden again. The only bigger job that is waiting is painting the bench. I made a bit of a mess with the new painting in April; the colour is now "distracted". But everything else is done, I'm afraid.

    I my garden.

A light frost last night - what few annuals I have put out seem to be fine, thankfully.
I've spent two weeks now fighting with a pump that supplies water to my hillside garden, and I still can't get it to run despite replacing the hose, the foot valve, and the check valve.  It doesn't help that the shed next to the garden has had some kind of electrical issue, so there isn't power to run the pump.  Now I have extension cords running across the lawn to the house.  Frustrating!  Add to that I've purchased and returned 2 camlock-to-hose adapters for my IBC tote that don't fit, and trying to find the correct part is like tracking the Holy Grail.  I'm ready to give up on watering altogether.

Today I'm trying to get on top of the badly-neglected indoor jobs :( but yesterday evening I cut the grass, planted a lupin and a knautia and made a small start on the annual forget-me-not pull-out.

I am desperate to go out and garden (I have dozens of, um maybe a 100 plants grown form seed to plant out, not to mention all the cutting back and lawn mowing...) but have to work and then have a medical appointment. But I did just do some impromptu potting up of very damaged order of seedlings, though.
I also noticed that I accidentally forgot to bring in some half hardy annuals I was hardening off (tithonia, aubergines, a courgette...) - one last night and the other a couple of nights ago. They'd only been hardening off for 3-4 days.  I guess they are now fully hardened off
Minimum temperature has been just under 10C.

I do like this time of year, but now that the veg are up and running,  plus the greenhouse going too, add in the many pots including new roses last year, watering is taking an hour and a half!  So the summer bedding plants will have to wait till the weekend,  when the head under gardener will be off to help.😆
  • Planted out a number of calendula grown from seed, and hopefully won't die planted in the ground. Also hoping the local slugs and snails don't feel hungry tonight.
Also been painting more fence panels.
Plus, when taking sand out of the storage box, I found the slow worms at the bottom. And there was me thinking they were in the compost bin. Unless I have two residing families.

I’ve no idea what I’m doing.
