At last, I have begun to pot on my autumn-sown onion seedlings. I ran out of pots halfway through which means I will have to go to the GC to buy some more. Oh dear! On the way home from my dog walk yesterday I spotted a big acacia in full flower. It is stunning, a huge column of sparkling yellow. It must be about 20ft tall and looks wonderful. It replaces the one I used to admire, not that far away from this one as it happens, which suddenly disappeared sadly.
Cut down my Pennisetum 'Hameln', Miscanthus 'Starlight', Miscanthus 'Morning Light' & Pannicum 'Prairie Sky'. Repotted the latter into a lovely pot to match the one that the Pennisetum is in. Both grasses seem to do well in pots on the patio. The other grasses are in the ground.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
Amazingly I have had to water some pots today. I have done a bit of pruning, removed an old hydrangea, cut back old fern leaves and had a general potter. Foxgloves sown last Summer are ready to be potted-on so that’s the next job.
Lovely to see buds - notably on the cherry trees, daffodils and camilla.
I have two Virgin's Bower seedlings under the grow lights! I'm so excited. It's a native plant so I'm hoping to find a spot for it in the forest garden I'm creating. It grew wild at my last house among some honeysuckle bushes alongside a stone wall and I enjoyed seeing it in flower.
I gave up on my first round of saved seeds as nothing was happening, and am trying again this time with a heat mat. So far just more Gerber daisies and prairie coneflower have germinated, but I'll take it.

Metacomet soil with hints of Woodbridge and Pillsbury
Planted lots of daffodils in the green as well as some primula. Put a layer of farmyard manure down on all the beds. Did a bit of weeding. Planted two new holly bushes and two new mahonia plus two euphorbia.
Had to water all of the beds as it’s been so dry lately. Watered the pots; cleaned one of the decks with the power washer. Cut back a lot of last year’s Herby P’s.
A bit more digging, more tidying up, and I've even made a start on moving all the gardening stuff into one place.
I've got such itchy feet at the moment. Not quite spring, not quite time for seeds, not quite time to see the fruits of labours to day. Next week looks lovely so far - 10° and sunshine - it makes spring feel that bit closer.
I watered two beds and then mulched them thickly with bark mulch - used 200 litres - this is going to be expensive. I'm hoping to cut down on the weeding this year. I also cut down the Polka raspberry canes, which may be a mistake? and did another prune of the rose which is either the climber New Dawn or Queen Elizabeth HT, could be either!

Water the pots, now there's a thought.. must be 3 weeks since it rained. I'll check mine tomorrow.
A day of mulching today.. mulched all my roses, having pruned them all a couple of weeks back. Got plenty done and managed to get through an entire builders bulk bag of compost!
