The collingham one is more a small holder with limited choice but not the overheads to make plants expensive @Janie B. Prefer to go to Ruskington it tends to have slightly different varieties to the standard GC.🙂
Emptied out old pots of daffodils that were either "blind" or hadn't appeared at all. Also dug out some that l'd planted out last year that also had no flowers, they were old, small ones from MIL's pots that hadn't flowered the year before, so l wasn't too optimistic anyway. Dead headed Bellis daisies that are really starting to get going now. Plan today is to cut back dogwoods, as forecast isn't too bad.
Sowed a row of lettuce, watered all the seedlings in the blowaway, planted a multi stem silver birch and an akebia quinata, relocated some yarrow to the pond area, topped up more veg beds with compost and threw some chicken manure and mulch around, pricking out Ammi majus later.. blimey didn’t feel like I’d done that much lol! 😀
I love birch trees Flinster and the multi stemmed are beautiful. Be sure to peel the thin layer of bark to show off the white stem.
Rain stopped us from gardening at 10 am. this morning, but I have just popped out to repot a pot bound blackberry cutting from last Autumn and prune the dead stems of an umbrella plant growing at the side of the pond. Feel satisfied although there is plenty more to do in the coming days, hope the weather behaves!
They are my are my favourite tree! Pretty vile weather tomorrow and windy for next week- my little blowaway is in and out of the house like a yo-yo lol!
I just had time to cut back the old nepeta stems as they've started to grow, prune two clematis and one rose. Walked up and down the back garden pondering on the heavily pruned hedge they cut yesterday, feeling very exposed as there's some big gaps now. I'd like to rake out all the old debris at the bottom but that's not easy to get to. If I could, then I could chuck handfuls of fertiliser down to perk the hedge up....mmm.
I got quite a lot done in the garden. Planted a hedge, got the plants in December but have been putting off planting them. Moved some fruit bushes, they were planted to close together. Also started to replace the sides of some raised beds.
If it stays dry tomorrow the fence is in need of paint.
