I titivated a camellia, emptied out top inches of old compost, replaced with new ericaceous compost and watered thoroughly with stored rain water with added ericaceous fertiliser. Then we staked an old bit of trellis across a gap of dead privet hedge behind the garage and tidied up. The amelanchier nearby is just coming into blossom.
Eeew, it was weeding here today too. I never did like weeding even as a child. Looking better for it though. My little friend in my profile picture was around to help. I know over the years it can't be the same robin, but to me it is the same little friend.
Also dug up some honeysuckle. I put it in years and years ago, in the wrong place of course, so finally got around to digging it up to move it.
Do people think the honeysuckle will be OK for a few days as bare root in the shed away from frost? In my usual way, I dug it up before preparing it's new home.
Planted potatoes and sowed carrots.every year I wonder how they will turn out,but this year more than ever I wonder what will life be like when they're ready to eat?hoping it will all if not over,on the way there.and a vaccine for the stupid virus
I'm planning to be putting in the first spuds, sow parsnips and first carrots next week. Today I'm having a psychological battle with the weeding. I have fruit trees along a fence and it is always a pig to weed, the roots come under the fence from next door. So doing it one fence panel at time. That's why I'm currently here with a coffee trying to psych myself up for the next 6 foot of weeding. On the bright side I'm more than half way along. Damn virus. We have a vulnerable family member and I honestly think I would have gone completely nuts by now without the garden. Same here feels like there is a real pressure to get the veg right this year. Before I just saw it as a bonus to 'have a go' and have mixed success. Now I'm reading up on everything like I never did it before.
Hallelujah 1500lts compost has arrived from B&Q 😀😀😀 I've been madly potting on loads of plants. Hopefully the extra goodness and sunny weather that's on the way will have them motoring along
Emptied, refilled and moved lots and lots of pots. Tidied up pond area and Hubby mended the garden lights ready for the gloriously hot summer we are going to have to kill off this vile virus.
GemmaJF , your honeysuckle stick it in a bucket of water or rap it in wet newspaper Been to allotment today , going to do some jobs in garden tomorrow Happy gardening everybody
Turned into quite a pleasant afternoon, so went round weeding, cutting back etc. Came across Astrantia "Roma" looking rather sad, so dug it up, together with the label. "Moist, humus rich soil" - couldn't get further from that if l tried ! Think l have a more suitable location in mind. Dug up and split some clumps of snowdrops, and made a list of what needs doing (quite a lot !).
