Thanks to the morons with chainsaws next door, I have a gap in my shrub border. (They cut down a Magnolia "Susan") Now we have a barbed wire fence to mark the boundary, today I have put a couple of lines of sandstone blocks from an old demolished stable, and planted a plain holly, a variegated holly, a forsythia, an italian honeysuckle, and a common honeysuckle to fill the gap. I have got some one year old hellebore seedlings to go in front, and I plan to finish with a sprinkling of peony poppy seeds.
It's raining heavy but I couldn't resist the lure of the garden so I've lifted a penisetum of some variety and split it into 30ish small plants and potted up. I can't seem to grow grasses from seed so this is my alternative
It works! It actually works!! @Allotment Boy thank you so much for that tip. Pesky rodent looked like it had been stung, when it tried to raid the feeder earlier today. Mwah-Ha-Ha 😈
So glad it's worked for you but I did say it would I read about this a few years ago & I have mentioned it on this site before but a lot of people are worried it will have an adverse effect on the birds- it doesn't. You may find it puts them off for quite a while, & you might not need to use it all the time just every few months to remind them to go elsewhere.
The missus is out so once the kids were in bed I've been pricking out greater knapweed in the kitchen, I'll be in bother if she finds out I'm doing garden jobs in the house.
Went out to do some pruning, managed the dead heading and cut back the leaves of some grape hyacinths that were covering the path. Cut back the roses, then snow stopped play.
Did a bit of weeding in between heavy showers. Picked a few blown over daffodils. Have bought inside last year's hellebore seedlings to pot on at my well protected dining table. It's too cold and windy outside to sit at the garden table.
Planned a day in the potting shed tomorrow ( Sunday) to see whats been hiding in there over winter. Time to brush down the cob webs and wash the seed trays. The seed compost has been in there over a week now and nice and warm so i think a few packets of seeds may get opened. if all else fails i have a chair and a coffee and i will sit and watch the rain showers pass by .... wish me luck
I sowed more beetroot, radish, tomato and parsley seeds and bought thyme and sage from the GC. OH steam cleaned the patios and steps with some help from Matt.
Lovely sunny day with a bit of wind , just having a coffee break from gardening Pruned rose that grows through a holly tree 🌲 and gave some grasses a major hair cut
