Posts

  • A lazy day today - I only topped up the hedgehog and bird baths/dishes. Took a stroll around the block to admire or despair of surrounding gardens.
  • After more tidying yesterday trip to GC to get seed spuds today. Very mild & warm in the sunshine.
    AB Still learning

  • Not got a thing done as took the hubby horse racing for his birthday. On the way back saw a barn owl in exactly the same place as last year at this time. Lovely to see.

Impromptu painting of the shed today, which also involved a general tidy up behind it (excellent leaf mulch doing its thing there). Moved a few pots and did a bag of pruning plus plenty of cuppas.
My garden and I live in South Wales.

Have been thinking about cutting the lawn this week as well
  • Hi, yesterday I made a start on clearing the Ivy, bramble and conifer growing through the fence from over the back (they never do any gardening just let the lot grow). Today I finished clearing my side and and took everything to the tip. I then Tired the shed and checked all the electrical garden tools. I was warm but very windy.
  • I'm on holiday from work this week, half term, so made a start on my long gardening to do list.
Cut back old foliage on most of my clematis, was delighted to see strong shoots from clematis I thought I had lost due to the drought conditions last year, I'd cut back the brown foliage last Autumn.
Did a lot of weeding, dandelions aplenty I noticed. Found some aquilegia seedlings so left them to grow a bit more before moving elsewhere. Spotted more hellebore seedlings so have carefully potted them up else the slugs will get them. The hellebore seedlings I potted up last month are now getting their true leaves. Thinned out and transplanted nigella seedlings. Divided a massive geum Totally Tangerine into 4 new plants, potted up 2 to give away. Divided the two Francoa clumps, potted up 5 for the Hospicare plant sale I support.
Potted up a bareroot Itoh peony Cora Louise, a very gratefully received birthday gift.
Thinned out forget me nots and discovered dozens of slugs sheltering below the leaves. Must be getting soft because I felt guilty getting rid of them all, snip snip method.

@forthebees, you don't really need to do anything with the hydrangea roots that are left. They are unlikely to regrow and will just rot away.
North East Somerset - Clay soil over limestone
  • Pruned all my Clematis - all 22 of them - all in pruning groups 2 & 3. Will give them their spring mulch and feed of FB at the start of March
Planted out some new alpine saxifrage rose pink
Divided a large Day Lilly Damask to create 5 new plants and now planted out in their new positions

Wow, 22 clematis greenfingers steve, I'm impressed.
I pruned my paltry 6 yesterday (G2&3) and spotted there were already aphids on the buds 😬.

Took half the stems of an old, top-heavy honeysuckle down to the ground. Hope it rejuvenates some lower growth as it covers the trellis that hides 'crap corner', my dumping ground for pots, compost etc...
