  • Righted the patio plant pots that had blown over, although I realize now that I may be doing that again in a few days time.  Re-potted some Dahlia tubers - some are 3 or 4 years old now and still producing good flowers in the summer.  Picked up remaining pine cones in the driveway and got some washing dried in the wind.

Found a pot of Daffodil bulbs, which I must have dug up last year and put into a pot meaning to re-plant in Autumn. I didn’t re-plant them, and there weren’t in much earth, but they are growing and buds are there. Just had a potter about, stirred my compost bin and checked for damage etc. I can’t wait for it to warm up a bit so I can make a start on the Spring jobs.
My garden and I live in South Wales.

Righted and re-stocked the bird table which got blown over a few days ago.  There was no point doing it sooner as the wind didn't abate until last night.  The pigeons were lining up on the roof when they saw what I was doing, and swooped like vultures as soon as I moved away.

Then I cut back hebe, laurel and skimmia which were taking up too much space, and put it all through the shredder.  I've never shredded laurel before, it gave off a delicious almond fragrance.  Then I assembled a mini-beast residence, using a chimneypot which we found in the garage when we moved in.  I stuffed it with the bits of shrub I'd just cut, the stems that were too thick and woody for the shredder, and some brushwood I had from when I trimmed a neighbour's conifer hedge.  To keep the rain out, I topped it with a big plant saucer full of pebbles and water, so the little critters can have a bedtime drink.

Josusa. I think that delicious almond fragrance is from Hydrogen Cyanide.

I resited the poytunnel, put the cover back on, lots of bricks to hold it down, and planted kale into already soggy soil. Then I watered it in.

Planted some polyanthus to give some colour. Looking at the forecast,  that could be it for a while.
  • Today I have sown radish, beetroot and tomato seeds in black module trays. No heating, but I have put a perspex lid on each tray, all in my unheated conservatory with door open for ventilation.

We actually have sunshine here and although there have been a couple of showers this morning,  the forecast is dry for this pm. I'm hoping just to walk around the garden (on a very soggy lawn) checking things over. That's the nearest thing to gardening at the moment!
I can't get into the greenhouse as the patio chairs are being stored in it until the wind dies down, but the pots of narcissi are starting to show.

Been to allotment this morning , got rid of old cabbage , broccoli & sprouts
Dug up the rest of the leeks
Not a bad day weather wise
  • The last thing I managed on the Allotments was to go and collect my new key for the gate as they are changing the lock. I then retreated from the horizontal rain & came home again. :#
