Spent a very good few hours tree planting yesterday. SD & her brood belong to the Woodcraft folk. The farmer where they go to outdoor camps etc has let them plant trees in several areas around the field where they go so I went along to help. Between the group we planted around 100 whips of Silver birch, Willow, Blackthorn & Ash in 4 different areas around the fields they use- very satisfying.
Well done Allotment Boy, you did well to plant so many lovely native trees - they should make a huge difference to the area as they grow and mature.
Before the rain set in we managed to cut out all the dead and decaying camellia, and we hope in years to come the new foliage will cover the cuts made today.
Hard pruned my wisteria today. It's very old - used to cover the whole house but someone cut it right back a few years before we bought it and over the years it's been left to grow quite wispy, which is a shame because it looks and smells beautiful. So after seeing how brutally they'd cut back their wisterias at Chartwell I thought I'd follow their lead. Hoping I can rejuvenate it.
Cut out some of the older stems of Cornus Alba Baton Rouge, they are so spectacular in the winter especially when they are wet after rain. Also tidied up the leaves on my Hellebores which are flowering nicely now.

With the storm coming I finally got my new rose bush in the ground and a bunch of primroses.
Scattered rose fertiliser around all my roses and shrubs.
hid a few things in more shelter, then buggered off up north. Got back this evening, and will survey the storm damage tomorrow..
Monday:
No real damage from the storm except the doors ripped off my bin storage!
