  • Yes that is a messy job AnniD - OH did ours a week or two ago. I potted up some rooted Buddlehia Davidii - the purple flowering shrub that the butterflies love, helped sort the stones from the weeds in the lawn that will be reseeded in a few weeks time and sorted some more wild flower plugs that I have grown indoors over the winter. This is the lawn that needed reseeding - it was full of weed and stone.

Got a fair bit done today.  Wired and tied in climbing rose New Dawn.  Moved a few pots around and popped to Ashwoods for some pots of Daffs Rapture and a Pulmonaria (Ice Ballet) for the new border.

I tried cleaning the paving with Bayers Patio Cleaner which I hadn't used before. It's very toxic chemicals so I wish I hadn't. It also didn't work and I've got 2 cans of the stuff (BOGOF offer). I'll give it a few days to see if it improves, if not, I'll have to persuade OH to get the power washer out.

Weeded the front beds in the afternoon while OH cut the grass for the first time. Green Thumb is scheduled for next week.

I pruned the roses this morning (I only have a few so it doesn't take long), and did some weeding and cutting back last year's perennials (somehow it never gets done in the autumn).

Cut back the buddlea, I don't have any bin space for the twigs so cut them up and piled on the 3 log (twig) piles.

Did some water butt admin, the small butt gets the most water sent to it so emptied some into the WB chain. I don't need to every year but I'm still about 250 litres short.

Took photos of spaces available for autumn planting spring bulbs. On my list so far I have snowdrops for the shady side and mixed crocus for the sunny.

Restacked the spare brick and roof tile heap as it had become rickety and part had collapsed onto a clump of new daffs (only leaves).

Dug some little tufts of Yorkshire Fog out of the lawn, (it was my fault, I did introduce it) and planted in the clay heap behind the pond as the other transplanted Fog sprigs haven't yet died.

Cut back the real ornamental grasses, had to dig up a molinia as there was a dandelion right in the middle I had to weasel out. Then I thought I might as well dig up another plant and pick out the couch. It looks like a sanguisorba but I've got an idea it has a different name🤔

Found a tentative space for an impromptu purchase of camassia and swapped over the bird feeders so they can get a sponge bath.

I went to the circus, pub lunch, watched the rugby, had wine and movie is lined up... but I THOUGHT about gardening all day, which counts in a small way surely! 😁

Yay! I will be back out there tomorrow with thought out plan lol! 😀
  • Been out this morning. Swept up the next round of leaves and twigs . Everything is very wet so no lawn cutting. Pruned roses and cut back general dead bits around beds. Snow drops look lovely, and so many daffodils are in full bloom.  The catkins on the twisted hazel are very long and plump this year. The buds are swelling on the apple tree and the iris leaves are a foot tall. Hope the cold nights to come don't knock everything back.
  • A couple of hours at the allotment, a bit more prepping ready for sowing, and had a go at putting new cloches together need to make a few tweaks but will be fine, Tuesday will be my next visit.
