Good morning all. Same weather here, everything sodden. Still raining now. Run out of sunflower seeds,so an early trip to Home Bargains. The Siskins are rummaging around, but only finding small bits!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Good Morning all. Everywhere is pretty wet here but rain has stopped and a promise of a dry afternoon. @AnniD I shall definitely bin my foxgloves but don't expect to find any seedlings. There has been a lot about hydrangeas and foxgloves on the forum recently. Strange how things come up that you want to know about. Learnt a lot. Wonder if they are selling any at B&Q at the moment. Maybe a trip today. Not easy to find any for sale online and they don't come cheap so will have to be patient. The one I ordered is called Macrophylla "Miss Saori". Your white one sounds nice. What type is the one I have with just flowers around the outside? Must get photos when the weather improves. Will have to wait until foxgloves are on sale again. Some of my lavender is looking good with dark blue flowers and a reasonable height but some (exactly the same) have gone mad and are so tall with not much colour yet and what I don't like is that the woody part is quite high from the ground so not sure what to do when it's time to prune them back. Have what I thought was possibly an intruder at first a lovely Astilbe (I think) with very tall white flowers. Must be one from the pound shop a while back. You and OH must be feeling somewhat proud after all the well deserved comments on your garden! @Valley Gardener Hope your rain stops soon. Very depressing when you can only look at the garden from the window. How much do you pay for your sunflower seeds? I buy them every week and will make a note of the price and weight of a bag today. Did you manage to sort out anything re fleas on the cat? I have had to use Frontline again but don't think it has the slightest effect. I had a seagull as a ground feeder the other day which I don't mind as it gets rid of the bits that make a mess on the grass. Think he was eating the peanuts. Just went to fill the feeders yesterday and blackbird was enjoying himself. Can at least stand in the shed and watch from the window without getting wet. My 5p clematis is doing well and about a foot high but still indoors. Should I just put it outside during the day and bring it back in at night? Don't want to lose it.
Hope you all have a good day including @Purplerain.
Good morning all. Like everyone else, the garden is sodden but there has just been a break in the clouds and the sun has come out.
@Fran IOM your "miss saori" is very pretty. I haven't seen one like that before and there are so many varieties of hydrangea now that we are spoiled for choice. The one you have that flowers around the outside is called a "lacecap" and you prune it in the same way that you would a "mophead".
@AnniD I am wondering if your hydrangea is "Vanille Frais" as that one starts white and then the tips go pink. I saw it on the forum last year (it might have been you who posted it) and I immediately bought one. Some of the paniculata varieties are gorgeous and I am tempted to get another one, maybe "limelight".
@Valley Gardener enjoy your trip to Home Bargains and don't come out with lots more than you went in for, as I always do.
Enjoy your Saturday and lets hope the rain keeps off.
@Purplerain I did think "miss soari" looked different to the norm. Let's hope I can do it justice. Thanks for the info. So I have a blue mophead and a pink lacecap! It would seem there are as many varieties as there are heucheras so I shall have to be careful. Good job SGC don't sell them....
@Joyce21 Thank you for that info. You don't know what you have done! Had a good look through and as you say I am spoilt for choice. The only trouble with living here is they can double the postage and it ends up as much as the plant sometimes. I shall certainly bear them in mind.

I remember going into my local Homebase last year, l think around mid August, and they had reduced a whole load of hydrangeas. I think once the flowers start to fade they don't have that instant "buy me appeal", and they haven't got the time to maintain them so just reduce them to get rid.
In fact a look online has brought up this
https://www.homebase.co.uk/search/products?q=hydrangea&facets=CategoryIdPath=a8745a09-a84d-4c79-8a90-1260326c0985 > 19113d3d-e03b-43cb-8d27-26710982200c > 2d8face7-4ee2-479e-87d5-2bceba3dc04a
I don't know if you have one on the IOM, but if not B&Q probably do the same thing.
