Lovely photos @Valley Gardener, l'm glad you had a nice day. The forecast for the rest of the week is mixed, so you chose the right time to go. Most of the butterflies in the garden seem to be cabbage whites, although l have seen the odd Red Admiral and Peacock now and again. I did see a damselfly or possibly a dragonfly this morning, it zoomed around so quickly, l couldn't tell. That astilbe is very pretty, l wonder if there are any on SGC . I could give them a try l suppose......
Good Evening all. Looks like I have a lot to catch up on. You have all been busy. Was a bit late getting over to the allotment this afternoon and it was pretty hot over there. @AnniD Searched Astilbe on SGC and two came up.... My Astilbe is in full sun most of the day. Look how lovely @Purplerain's is. Looking forward to seeing Mouse. Lovely photos @Valley Gardener. It must have been a good day out. I have never seen so many butterflies in one go. First time on the allotment this year. Seven on the one Verbena plant. Tortoiseshells and a couple of whites. And plenty of bees as well. Must have been the good weather that brought them out. Managed to get some fuchsia hedge cut and planted out one of my Hydrangeas. Had to cut a few blooms off as they hadn't recovered. Just hope I've put it in the right place. There seems so much to do at the moment I am going to have to get organised. It all seems overwhelming at first but will just have to do a little at a time. My clematis is still looking good but I forgot to plant out my delphinium. Privet hedge to cut as well. I think it was you @Valley Gardener who mentioned getting rid of your silene recently. I am in the process of digging mine out as they have finished flowering and look a mess. Of course this leaves a lot of space so maybe have a look at the SGC email....as if I hadn't got enough to do. You picked a lovely place to go to for the day. Your astilbe is beautiful @Purplerain. What I also like about them is when they lose their colour the flowers still look good. Enjoy the rest of your evening. Hope tomorrow's weather is good but maybe a bit cooler hopefully.
Good morning everyone Hope you can make Mouse out on the second photo - he zooms around so quickly that it's difficult to get a "still" that isn't blurry ! This morning started with off clear blue skies, but it's beginning to cloud over now and the forecast is for thundery showers. Quite breezy too. @Fran IOM@Purplerain l looked at the astilbes on the SGC website, but it does say that they like moist soil. I couldn't square it with my conscience, especially as l still have other plants waiting to go in (not to mention the foxgloves that are coming along), so l have been good I will bear them in mind though! Not quite sure what today's plans are, depends on the weather. I may even resort to retrieving The Duster (TM) from the cupboard as a last resort. Enjoy your Tuesday and hope @Valley Gardener has reasonable weather for sticking more broken bits of plants in the ground 😁 Laters x
Mouse had a close shave there! Life must be fraught with danger being a mouse but he lives to see another day. Probably best not to bother with the Astilbe @AnniD. You know your soil conditions better than anyone. I am giving up with Penstemons because they just don't like it. Last years didn't survive the Winter, and the cuttings I took, although healthy, look scrawny. We can't always grow what others can.
I enjoyed Keeping Faith @Valley Gardener. What a lovely location and very good acting.
@Fran IOM you have been busy so no wonder you are tired. I was out early this morning and the butterflies and bees are everywhere! Like you, I have never seen so many at one time. They are taking a rest on the path too so I am being extra careful not to stand on them.
Time for a second coffee, so have a great day, whatever the weather.
Good Morning all. Last in this morning so you must all be well organised. Pouring with rain at 7am but has stopped now and looking a little brighter. Always hope for a good afternoon as then I have an excuse not to do anything in the house. Have to make the most of the good weather you know! No grass will be getting cut and I think it is now two weeks since I last did it. Could spend the time picking up all the fallen apples. The worst time is when they are big and some rotten which fall everywhere. You can only give so many away. They are far too high to be able to pick them off. @AnniD Maybe Mouse could smell that the cat had been there before him and wasn't going to stay to find out. Can you recognise the cat as being one of your neighbours? Looks rather on the big size and obviously rather thirsty. You can always keep an astilbe in mind. They do take up quite a lot of space rather like a heuchera. @Valley Gardener Looks like our rain has moved to your area. Where is our summer? How old is your eucalyptus? My silver birch is well staked and has grown considerably in a year but not as quick as buddleia. Think I must be the only one growing buddleia at the moment. At least the butterflies have the Verbena as Buddleia not established well enough yet. Maybe never if I decide to get rid. @Purplerain If the butterflies have their wings closed it's sometimes hard to spot them. Apart from slugs and snails I am very careful. It's strange how the "creepy crawlies" don't bother you in the garden but would if they were in your house. What amazes me is the spiders webs that appear in 24 hours with such a lot of work in them. They sometimes make webs from one bed to another across the pathway so can easily walk through it. Just spotted one in time yesterday. Enough now. Will make an effort to get on with the day. Enjoy it whatever the weather.
Just one for ID. Another Campanula?? Anenome? Showing my ignorance. Did have a couple of others but can't track them down at the moment. Probably still in an email.
