Lavender was my first thought,  they would be "evergreen",  scent in the summer.  :)

@Valley Gardener I am not really the one to suggest what to plant in your new trough.
I thought patio roses sounded good but I have really gone off lavender the way mine has gone really wild. Did read in my gardening diary that August was the time to cut them down. Think some of mine will be getting dug up but that job isn't top of my list. I noticed the bees weren't getting so much out of the flowers now. You can get some really nice sedums which have a bit of height.
@AnniD You were quite right about the change in the weather. After the torrential rain of yesterday today was too hot to do too much physical. Just need a happy medium.
My cat was there but wasn't interested in some tinned sardines and didn't stay long.
@Purplerain Hope the weather has been kind to you and you managed to get out in the garden.
That photo at the top is supposed to be down here! Having problems. It was going to have a message as to what is it. It's a very insipid plant given by someone in a garden centre but has no colour. Was going to put another couple of photos on for ID but not working so will have to wait and do a separate post another time.
    Have a good night all.

Hi @Fran IOM, l think it's possibly an astrantia  :)
  • @Hazel-1
We love to hear from others on here,it tends to be a mix of everything as you have probably seen😊
I will put a pic on,and some more accurate measurements.
I like the sound of Ivy to trail over the sides. I think the problem is that I would like something through the winter too,not just bare twigs,it's a big ask! I'm going through my plant books for ideas too.
I will look at any suggestions, many thanks.

  • I think probably not big enough for Lavender, but a small rose maybe.
The reason I said gritty, was because of the sedums etc I was thinking of,they stay over winter I think.I would like different Heucheras, but they disappear for winter.

@Valley Gardener, Heucheras don't disappear over winter so they would be a good choice and you could underplant them with bulbs.  Some heucheras tolerate a sunny position better than others.

Yes, I was thinking about Heucheras too. That would be colourful @Valley Gardener. You could have the brightest red "Fire Chief" to the lime green ones, or the gorgeous "Sweet Tea" all mixed together.

Meet my ancient but new to me hedgehog 😀. I need a name for him. Any ideas?

He is smiling, but you can't see that very well.

    Good Morning,
Sun is shining so all looks promising for some gardening this afternoon.
@Hazel-1 Lovely display you have there. I still haven't got around to having cosmos and as they always look good must think about it for next year. Love your bird bath. The type I have always wanted.
@AnniD You are quite right about it being an Astrantia. Would never have found that out. How do you know the names of all these plants like so many other posters. It would have been better if it had been one variety with coloured flowers. Have always felt sorry for it.
@Valley Gardener How could I possibly forget to suggest heurcheras! I think that is your answer.  :) Apart from the many others I do have one in a pot which has done very well and as @Joyce21 said they don't disappear in winter otherwise I would forget where they all were. Many gardens around here have heucheras in pots and you have such a choice of colours.
@Purplerain Love the hedgehog! Will have to think of a name. I am sure others will come up with something suitable.
    Enjoy your day all.

Think that will be at the top of @Purplerain's lists of names. Suits him well.
