Good morning all. I slept late as it took ages to get to sleep as it was so hot and humid. Having a cat on either side didn't help. They usually take turns, but not last night.
I think Private Godfrey sounds lovely @AnniD and hope to see a photo of the three young birds if you can get one. Are the goldfinches winning the war with the sparrows @Fran IOM?
Sorry I can't help with the marmalade @Valley Gardener. I have never liked it, even as a child, although on paper it sounds lovely.
I will have to go out for some food shopping later, so will detour to Homebase, just for a look you understand lol.
Good Morning all. At least I'm not the last to post this morning but what's the bet that @Purplerain is posting at the same time as me. Temperature today is 19c so looks as though it will be a better day on the allotment. May get something done and something planted out. Took clematis over yesterday but brought it back as it was just too hot to risk planting it out. We don't seem to have had any rain and the ground is so dry. If it is cloudy today I can use the hose later this afternoon. @AnniD at least your rain has saved you a job. Like @Valley Gardener suggests you must try and get a video of the baby blackbirds. Do they come down when Mr B is feeding in the mornings? How do you know the sound of goldfinches?? I don't know one from another apart from the blackbird when he is happy. I could place bets on whether you come home with plants or not from Homebase. Wonder if I shall win. @Valley Gardener I thought you were off to buy a Heuchera!! Lemon Marmalade just sounds like the name of one. Will have a look in the coop and see if they sell it. Can't think I have seen it. You could look on the SGC website but probably not what you want. Will explain a few things about my last photos later. Time is getting on and I have just seen on the screen that @Purplerain has got in before me. Still mainly sparrows I'm afraid but who knows they may be back this afternoon. Another one going to Homebase! Good job we don't have one here. Will get back later with photos no less. Time on this forum seems to fly by and makes me feel guilty when I look at the clock. So must get on.
He is such a handsome boy, and a very good father. He will need to toughen them up to make it on their own, especially Godfrey.
This plant has been in my garden for years behaving itself in the one place, and last Autumn I decided to divide it. All went well and I placed it where I wanted (just one division) but it's like it went into party mode and invited all its friends. It has seeded all over the place. Any idea what it is anyone? It has low clumps of leaves and the flower stalks are around 4ft tall. It's the pink one behind the Verbena Bonariensis.
Anni is 6.00am when he was there? Was that also the temp? It looks as though he's checking on what Hog has left in the dish. How did your Homebase trip go?
@Purplerain ,whatever they are they're very pretty,I'll have a look in my flower book!
@Fran IOM I was paying special attention to the Hydrangeas in people's gardens today, thinking of your spacing. My goodness some were huge,so I can see why you want to get it right first time. It must be so easy to dig them in too close to each other.
Have now got the garden set of two chairs and a table/cushion store. Really pleased with it,will do a pic tomorrow.Homebase sale was good so treated the bathroom chair to a new cushion, much to OHs disgust. Then couldn't resist a nice Yellow Coreopsis from Asda, the garden seems to have too much blue pink and purple, thought a shot of yellow was needed.😁😁

@purplerallim your plant is a Francoa, might be francoa sonchifolia. Also known as Bridal Wreath or the wedding flower. I bought one from a charity plant sale a few years ago. It's been divided many times. It looks pretty growing up through pink roses and with other airy flowers. I love it because it's evergreen and the leaves grow in a neat rosette.
Oh! Thank you so much @lilysilly. What an exotic name "Francoa" and "wedding flower". I will make a note of it. I have no idea where I got it from, but it is a welcome addition to the border at this time of the year.
Must admit l don't know what it is @Purplerain , it is very pretty though. Mr B has come for breakfast, elevenses, and afternoon tea . It makes me smile as he always thanks me with a little "chirrup" before he flies away. Mind you he sits on the open greenhouse door when l am inside and harangues me until l get his favourite suet pellets for him ! I haven't seen "The Patrol" today, but it was about 8pm when l saw them yesterday, so l will keep looking out for them.
@Valley Gardener I have never seen lemon marmalade but you might find it in farm shop perhaps. There are recipes online if you fancied having a go....
@Fran IOM, the goldfinches have quite a chattering song, they were perched on the guttering above the bedroom window so l knew they were about. They are so colourful! This is what they sound like https://www.british-birdsongs.uk/goldfinch/
You will have to let me know where to send the cheque as you have won your bet 😁 I bought 2 Raymond Evison clematis reduced to £7.50 each but she let me have one for £5 as a bit of it broke off at the till. They are "Vicki" and " Corinne", one dark pink and the other white. OH was happy as he got some gizmo that was reduced from £22 odd to £1.40 ! He is talking about going back for something else.....l daren't go with him There was one lonely healthy looking heuchera, can't remember the name, but it looked a bit like "Sweet tea". £4.50, if it's still there then it's a sign, isn't it ? .Right, must get on with the dinner, Gardeners' World later, and a glass of sparkling elderflower. Have a good evening everyone.
Good Evening all. It was still hot this afternoon but there was a cool breeze now and again so not as bad as yesterday. Did manage to plant out my clematis so keeping my fingers crossed that it will still be ok tomorrow. Moved a geranium from where it had little room to where I had uprooted my foxgloves. Also planted out one of my rescue pound shop plants called Phygelius Fan Yellow. Gave them all a good watering. Looks as though we are in for a lot of rain tomorrow. Got some nice scratches on my arm which I have to blame on David Austin and not the cat this time. Had to squeeze between it and the fuchsia to be able to cut some back. @Purplerain Just love the colour of your hydrangea and hopefully someone can name your flower for you. Did you and @AnniD bring anything home from Homebase? @Valley Gardener There is a heuchera on SGC called Liime Marmalade. Didn't see any Lemon today. Don't think I have ever seen it.
David Austin rose "Grace"
David Austin rose "Amelia"
Some of my pound shop roses are just as nice so will get some photos of those when I can. Still have one to plant out but as it will be a spade job I didn't have the energy. Will probably come back later. See you did get an answer to your query @Purplerain. Sounds good. See also that @AnniD was posting at the same time too so will be back later.
@Fran IOM. Those roses are gorgeous, have you any perfumed ones? I'm sure your Clemmie will be fine, especially if rain is due. Our forecast isn't showing rain,so will have to get out there shortly with the hose.😕
