  • I don't think the Sempervivam have grown much, though the various other rock plants in the shallow pot have, the Delosperma are putting on another show,I thought they were all over when I bought it,I can also see some red coming on the Sedora, they have draped themselves beautifully over the sides.
Maybe I should do cuttings or split those later to put in with the ones that aren't growing so fast.😊

The space I was thinking of for a hydrangea, would be viable, but I will have to wait for next door to put his wall up,otherwise it would be trampled. What's growing there isn't really very important,I can move the pot,and the big stone it's standing on,also the Dahlias will be lifted leaving not much there.I haven't really bothered with it as it gets used as a gateway,so the soil is well trampled. But when the wall goes up........

The carpet fitters arrived before 9.30 and they are still here. I expect them to be a while longer as they are doing the main bedroom, hall and staircase and a vinyl in the kitchen. Will post in pm.

I have been out and planted the hydrangea. I had another spot for it originally but suddenly the area beside the plop pond 😉 seemed better. Do you think the neighbour will put up his wall soon @Valley Gardener? I keep losing part of my post as I type this, then I had to go and rescue a bee that was going mental having flown in by mistake.

Right, post seems normal now. I was going to say @Fran IOM that I wonder if it's normal to hoover carpets and scrub vinyl knowing that it will end up in landfill, because that's what I did. I saw some lovely Heucheras yesterday. If you see them, do you gently touch and stroke them while mentally arguing with yourself about taking another one home? I bet you do 😀.

@AnniD since when did scabiosa become knautia, or am I just out of date? I hope you are having a lovely peaceful time 😀.

It has turned out to be a very sunny afternoon and quite warm, but after all the shopping etc. I just can't summon up the energy to do anything garden wise. Everything will just have to manage !
Morrisons had a whole load of perennials in, and still had the clematis for £1.79, but even l can't justify buying any more of those.
@Purplerain, l don't know what the difference is between knautia and scabious, but the internet helpfully tells me that knautia Macedonia is sometimes known as the Macedonian scabious !
I already have the dark red one and the bees love it ."Melton Pastels" seems to have more of a pink to pinky-red mix. They were two for £3, so a bargain.

@Fran IOM , they had a few heucheras, but old varieties such as "Plum Pudding" rather than the newer more colourful ones.

@Valley Gardener has your neighbour given you any idea as to when his wall will be finished? Hadrian's wall took about 14 years l think...?.

I have been making notes of what l plan to do in the autumn. There are 2 great big clumps of Shasta daisies next to each other, so l plan to dig the front one out, that should give me quite a bit of room to put several plants. Also the middle section of the bed next to the daisies is a mess, so l am going to take out a small phormium and valerian and other bits and bobs. Then of course there's the trellis bit where the "Guernsey Cream" clematis was never happy - OH is going to take out the trellis and do some digging and soil replacement  (he says). Those are the plans, but the best laid and all that.

Hope everyone has had a reasonable day 🐱😁

Grocery shopping is shattering,I loathe it,then there's all the putting away! You still managed to have a look at the plants Anni,I walked past them at Asda yesterday, just no more room.
That's great that you have a plan for Autumn,it's good to plan ahead.
I sneaked off down the lane earlier, and gathered four poppy seed heads, they were beautiful peach coloured doubles,a few weeks back, just growing in the hedge,so not belonging to anyone, the seed is so tiny it could have blown from someone's garden. Also picked up a nice piece of slate to do something with on a wet day.😊

It's a mystery when the wall will be built, a small section has been done, but underneath those old slabs lies an old dry stone wall, the original boundary. I'm worried that he will get a mini digger in,and remove that first....creating a big trench once again, the last time he did it,all my Alliums fell in and were gone forever,so would other perennials if I hadn't moved them.
I'm reluctant to plant much along there till it's done. Hes the sort of man that the more you ask,the longer it will take, e.g.  The girders when I painted the wall, hed been told about ten days before that I was doing it,but just left the girders for me to paint round!
    So blinking awkward!I

@Purplerain your house must be transformed by now,are you pleased with the result?
Glad to hear you had time to put in your new Hydrangea, are you pleased with that too?
White will certainly brighten up the garden on a dark day, they look lovely at dusk too, white flowers.

    Good Evening all,
It has been a lovely day. Managed to get a few things done this morning and get over to the allotment this afternoon.
@Valley Gardener Those red flowers are lovely. Where do you manage to find all your stones? I can't believe the neighbour is taking so long to get the wall done. It must drive you mad. Does that mean that you can step over into his garden? You are really restricted as to what you can plant there. Hope you have success with your poppy seeds.
@Purplerain Hope you are happy with your new carpets. I took my hydrangea over with me but didn't get around to planting it out. I got it from Dobies and can't fault them.
It's funny how you change your mind about where you are going to plant them. Had to laugh at you vacuuming and scrubbing your carpets and vinyl before the carpet fitters came. You can't let standards drop. I would probably have done the same. Vacuuming but may be not scrubbing. A quick wipe over. I don't think I have seen a heuchera "face to face". Think I have always bought them online. Can't remember how I got my first one followed by many others. Wish I had a memory.  :(
@AnniD Do have a Plum Pudding heurchera but some of them look very alike. Still looking out for Thomas. It's one thing doing the shopping but putting it away is another thing. I thought I was the only one who had no energy afterwards. I couldn't even think what to do in the Autumn when there is still so much to do now.
I just spent the time on the allotment this afternoon cutting the grass. Thank goodness that is done. It was so hot I had to stop halfway and have a sit down. It makes the place look a lot tidier and you don't notice the mess in the flower beds quite the same. It took me a good hour but couldn't fault the mower. It is second to none and my son must have done some research before buying it as it is perfect for the "older woman". So simple to use. Hopefully I can post some photos below showing my afternoon's work as my daughter called in and took some.
Will say Goodnight now and enjoy the rest of your evening.
Sorry the first one duplicated as I didn't think it had worked.
Anyone know how to take a photo off the forum??
Still lots of weeds and bare patches but given time it could improve.

Good morning all, hoping to go somewhere on the train today,no idea where!

Fran that is lovely,it's nothing like the allotments round here, all veg. It's a proper beautiful garden, I didn't visualise such a big lawn either. I can see why you have your work cut out with a hedge to cut too. Well done you, keep the pics coming,is that the apple tree on the right?

Yes there are many rocks around here,I have big ones standing among the flowers, they probably came from the old covered stone wall.
The neighbour who's been extending uses it as a cut through, when he and OH are lending tools etc!😐  ,

    Good Morning all,
Looks like another hot day here. Maybe just pottering on the allotment in the shade after yesterday. Thanks for your comments @Valley Gardener. Now the grass is cut the hedge is next on the list but only do a bit at a time. There are three trees but only two can be seen. Two cooking apples and one pear. You can just make out the purple of the Buddleia which grew into the tree! (Top right corner). It's hard to believe that the grass area had a huge mound of top soil which had had to be dug out to allow for the pathways etc. Never thought I would get rid of it but son and girlfriend sifted it all and it is currently elsewhere, then son put the grass seed down. Must send him an email to show him what his efforts have achieved. Pity you don't have a more cooperative neighbour. Enjoy your day out.
Will wait to see what @AnniD and @Purplerain have planned for their day.
It's feeling pretty hot already so hope there is a cool breeze out there.

Good morning all. Late today but ready to grab a spade and get going 😀. I love the allotment @Fran IOM and I look at it more as a secret garden. Just lovely, and the grass is looking good now. No wonder you are such a one for buying plants as you have plenty of room for them

Glad you are all getting good weather. It's dullish here, but I think it will brighten up like it did yesterday. Will cut the grass and do a bit of weeding today, so will look in later. Have a great Friday.

Garden is quite "white" at the moment as a lot of the phlox from mum's garden are starting to flower. I will also post some photos on the garden gallery thread.

And look what I found in Homesense - couldn't resist !

    Good Morning all,
Think it will be another warm day today. There was no cool breeze yesterday so a bit too hot for heavy work. Got my other hydrangea planted out with plenty of room to spread I hope. Gave it a good soak. Dead headed the roses and weeded around them but the bark covering does prevent a lot weeds coming up. Have white roses climbing up the pergola. One on each side. One is climbing well but not producing many flowers at the moment and the other doesn't want to climb but producing plenty of flowers. Can't win. May start on the privet hedge today. Some of it will be in the shade so shouldn't be too hot.
@AnniD Love the white in your garden. Maybe my grass will look like your lawn one day. I can understand you having to buy the hedgehog. Where are you going to keep him? Was OH impressed?
@Purplerain Thanks for your comments on the allotment. It may look big with plenty of room but I can assure you it is hard to find a space for new plants! Still no goldfinches have come back. Surrounded by sparrows. I think they are babies and the parents have shown them where the food is. Heard something on the news this morning about the butterflies, as they seem to be everywhere, that it is a phenomenon that happens every ten years if I have got it right. Sadly they don't live longer than two weeks.
@Valley Gardener Are you recovering from your day out yesterday? Maybe today you will be glad to stay at home in the garden.
    Enjoy you day all
