Very warm here, think it's going to be an uncomfortable night for sleeping. Hedgehog has food and water waiting. There are possible thunderstorms forecast overnight, the sky is very red/orange, so we will see. Just catching up with Saturday's Tatton Show programme, not too sure about Jo Whiley's holey jumper ! Cooler temperatures tomorrow "only" 28 degrees !
Good morning everyone I think Hedgehog knew something was coming, he turned up around 9.30pm. Three hours later we had some spectacular thunder and lightning for a couple of hours. Sheet and forked lightning and some very heavy rain. No need for OH to water the front garden this morning! After the house was struck by lightning some years ago, l have gone off thunderstorms a bit (!), but this was so incredible, l just had to watch it. Unfortunately it hasn't cleared the air as l would have hoped, but we did get some sleep in the end. Not much on the agenda today, thank goodness. I'll check round the garden before it gets too hot and water the baskets etc. Mr B is chuntering a bit, he was running around the lawn yesterday looking as though he was playing "Wack a mole". There were some flying ants around, maybe he was after them. Anyway, time for breakfast . Hope you all have a good day, whatever you are up to. Laters x .
Good morning all. Quite dull here and not particularly warm, but it started like this yesterday and ended up a beautiful day. I enjoyed my garden visit yesterday although it wasn't really full of horticultural delights. It was a huge area with lots of sitting out sections and I think the volunteers just manage to keep on top of things.
Glad you survived the thunderstorm @AnniD, can't say I am too keen on them. When I was little my Mum used to close all the interior doors and make us sit in the dark hall until it was over. Not sure of the logic of that if we got hit lol.
@Fran IOM I hope you manage to find out what is going on with your photos, I have tried to think what the problem could be but can't come up with much of an answer. Maybe if you copy and paste from your email into a photo folder or the desktop on your own computer, then click on that little mountain icon they will upload.
@Valley Gardener I hope you are coping with the heat as I know you were struggling yesterday. This weather is not doing my garden any good and it's looking quite bedraggled. As we move into August I find it quite a challenge to keep everything going this year.
@Purplerain. If this photo of my Harts Tongue fern remains on the thread it is thanks to you!! I read through what you said above and went into the "little mountain" icon and went into selected files (which I didn't know existed!) and found all sorts of photos in there apart from the one above. So went into my emails and saved it to a file then came back here to the icon and dragged it from the file! Now @Valley Gardener can have a look. If this works it is the answer. Just got to get my daughter to take the photos. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction.
It's still here @Fran IOM. It looks like you have cracked it and it's a lovely fern. It turned into a beautiful day again, but quite hot and humid even at this time of night.
Hi @Purplerain It does look as though it is going to stay there unlike my previous attempt thanks to you. Glad you enjoyed your garden visit yesterday. This morning it was somewhat cold here believe it or not but this afternoon it got a lot warmer. Now it is thick mist and you can't see into the distance. Tomorrow is slightly warmer at 24c. So glad it's not in the 30's. Hope you have all had a good day. With being out all morning didn't have much time left to work on the allotment. Started cutting down the fuchsia hedge but the bees were getting annoyed with me. Then started on the privet hedge which is somewhat long, the length of the allotment, so that is going to take some time. The fuchsia hedge is almost the same length. At least my heucheras didn't suffer when they fell down. I actually saw one goldfinch today and there was no way a sparrow was going to get on his perch. Maybe they will come back gradually. There seems to be so much to do all of a sudden but it will have to be done gradually. When I was looking at my old photos I found one of the pink hydrangea from last year and it was a mophead then and is now a lace cap? Glad I found that as I could not remember it ever being a lacecap before. Must get my other one planted out tomorrow. Must confess I treated myself to a hanging basket yesterday. Had been looking at them at full price and didn't bother but they were reduced to half price and only one left so had to get it. Think it was the last one because it wasn't showing so many flowers open so I have given it a good feed of miraclegro and hoping it will start showing some colour. Hope it hasn't been too hot for you all. Will catch up tomorrow.
Good morning everyone Forecast is "scorchio" today, so l have been up early and watering since 6.30 am. Have fed Mr B his favourite suet pellets 3 times already. He is looking particularly sleek and handsome this morning, and l have told him so 😁 Hedgehog food was untouched this morning but l haven't checked the camera yet, so l don't know if he turned up at all. First load of washing is nearly finished and OH is still asleep which is very unusual, he is usually awake and out of bed long before me. Something tells me that l may regret this early start later ! Supermarket and parent visiting this morning (only one set of parents l think), and then stay in the cool. @Fran IOM your photo is still here this morning, l think you've cracked it. Looking forward to seeing photos of the allotment and the heucheras! @Valley Gardener and @Purplerain , hope you have a good day and enjoy the weather in whichever way you choose to ! Laters x
Good Morning all. You certainly were an early bird @AnniD. Mr B wasn't complaining though as he probably got extra. Wonder if Hedgehog made an appearance. At least in the Supermarket the food area is usually cold. Your first load of washing is probably dry by now the only trouble is it makes the ironing pile look like hard work. Not something you would want to do in this weather. Yes the photo is still there! Did find one of the allotment before it had been started on so may post that sometime along with an up to date one. Must email my son to get him to send me some of the many many photos he took. Never get to see them. I shall probably end up being exceptionally boring. (Not more photos from Fran)! Does anyone know why my hydrangea was mophead last year and lace cap this year? Hope it isn't too hot for you @Valley Gardener and @Purplerain and will look forward to hearing from you later. Time to make a move...
I grew some antirrhinum madam butterfly "bronze" and some sidalcea together so took this pic a minute ago. The peachy one at the front is the antirrhinum but in real life it is darker. I will grow it again I think as it's dotted around the garden and lifts things at this time if the year.
Gosh,I'm all behind this am. Fran your pic of the Harts tongue is lovely, well done for getting it sorted between you and Purplerain, I may have to pick your brains too about copy and pasting! At least you showed me how to get my pics the right way round, for which I am grateful. PR that pic is lovely, your flowers look a lot fresher than mine. Will try and get one of my disappointing B+Q rose, well the colour is.
Looking forward to anything you have on the hog cam AnniD, it always brightens my day to see his antics.
Hope to get back later, have a good day folks. Stay cool....😎😎😎😎
