The turkey has been stripped and leftovers have been frozen in meal sized portions, I've left some breast slices to reheat in gravy with the last of the pigs in blankets, leftover potatoes and carrots and some purple sprouting we have to hand ... we'll have that this evening.
The remains of the sausagemeat stuffing has been put out for the birds ... the blackbirds seem to love it but the pigeons are eyeing it with suspicion.
The carcass is simmering on the hob in the preserving pan with carrots, celery, onions and bayleaves ... it'll probably be there most of the day turning into delicious broth for meals after New Year.   Roast  turkey isn't my favourite Christmas Day roast... but the turkey broth is another matter entirely chops

You’ve picked the right smiley, Dove. Very appropriate.

At least my zucchinis are starting to have babies, 🤪

Im off to bed, having survived another stinking hot day. Oh for a cold southerly.

We've been clearing up today. Dining room is back to pre-Christmas state, the garden table used for the Grandchildren is back in the garden, tablecloths in washing machine, tablemats wiped, floor swept, cracker wrappings in the bin. I've taken several sacks of wrapping paper to the bins and 4 boxes of beer and wine bottles to the glass bin in the village.

    Evening all.
Some good post-Christmas jobs going on today. I had a brief pang to clear some of Christmassy bits away today but they can stay for the weekend and there may be a clear out on New Year’s Day, if we aren’t entertaining anyone. I’m currently in two minds whether to offer lunch, as I’ve not been feeling brilliant again but I do like to mark the New Year with a nice meal - more so than celebrating on NYE. We used to go to, and host, some cracking NYE parties when we were younger. These days I like to stay in and just polish off the festive nibbles.
    Hope everyone doing ok.

We are still eating trifle. Only another bowl to go.  Next year I will make a small one. No doubt then there will be complaints that there isn't enough.

Good evening everyone. Phew, I’ve just been out to turn on soaker hoses in the garden. It’s stinkng hot. Now that I’ve come back inside, the sweat is just pouring out of me. (Memories of all those years in Darwin). Hubby is just filling the reservoir on the fan. Such a relief.

Hope you dont don’t all freeze over there.

Yet another hot day here, but clouds rolled over this afternoon, and its now bearable and I’ve got the doors open. 😁

i made a large large pot of chicken soup with giblets. It went down very well.

Flopped in front of TV now. It should improve when the news has finished.

  • Good morning all :)
overcast and totally still here ... we’ve been sitting in bed watching a flock of pigeons wheeling and swooping over the treetops.
