We've had 5 inches/13cms since the 1st of December Pat.   The low pond in the farmer's paddock is more or less full, ours is lookig healthy but not yet full and the reservoir lake in teh village still looks at least half empty.  Need lots more.

I am making sweet chili sauce.  Remind me not to rub my eyes.

  • Right ... I'm properly awake, have done the shopping plus have been informed that my cholesterol level has gone up Duh!  (must make appt with Practice Nurse after Xmas)
and can now get on with the Smartmeter Saga

If you remember, there were two failed appointments... £30 x 2 in compensation, the explanation that Smart meters don’t work in this area so the appointments should never have been made were followed by receipt of a letter on Saturday telling me that AccessInstall were coming today to fit the meters. I made an irate phone call to Npower who assured me that they would cancel the appointment and place a Refusal on my account so I would not be bothered again.

So what do you think happened yesterday when we were out? Yes ... they turned up to fit the meters. twisted You couldn’t make it up could you!!!??? Another angry phone call from me to the nice lady at Npower eventually ended with both of us having the giggles ... neither of us could see why, if I was entitled to compensation for visits that didn’t happen when they should, I shouldn’t be eligble for compensation for a visit that happened when it shouldn’t have ... but apparently it doesn’t work like that rolleyes

I did explain that they were very lucky I’d been out .... whip2

I don't see why you can't be compensated again either Dove.   For next time, what you need is to arm yourself with some of my sweet chili sauce.  It's lethal!   Need a lot of sweet red peppers to calm it down....  That's what you get for using Thai chilies.

Persisting down here now.   Good job I have plenty to do indoors.    Chimney has been cleaned.  I'm lovely and mucky with furniture stuff.

One day, @Dovefromabove, I shall tell you all about my Mum's adventures with the meter companies. It involves them (repeatedly) telling her they wanted to read a meter she didn't have, and her (repeatedly) telling them it didn't exist. It ended with a man actually walking around her (very small) bungalow looking for a cupboard under the stairs and having to admit there were, in fact, no stairs.

    You have to laugh.

I have posted parcels, sent all the cards to be posted, written the ones to be hand delivered, ordered the Christmas food from the butcher and ordered OH's present. Haven't made a cake or a pud yet - can't use any alcohol so have to leave it nearer the time as they won't keep very well. A job for next week. Done my last trip to London for the year, just one more meeting and then I think I'll be on Christmas wind down.  :)

It's flippin' freezin' out there ( max of 6C, not factoring in "chill factor" ). A real biting East wind.

    Evening folks.
Don't rub your eyes Obelixx....oops, too late...
Re your fingers - it's ok Dove - you're getting on a bit, love  :D
I don't see why you can't get compensation too. Serve 'em right.
r'girl - I did laugh, but frankly, people are idiots, aren't they?
2 degrees here just now Hosta, plus the wind. Frost for later, so hopefully a brighter day tomorow than today, before the snow arrives.  I'll bring the tree in from it's outside bucket so that it's nice and dry for decorating on Saturday.

Just had a nice lad come to the door 16/17ish ... he was walking to his girlfriends house and couldn’t find it ... he’s only been there once before, and his phone was out of charge ... could he plug it in here please? He’d pay for the electricity. Bless him ... he stood in the hallway and we discussed paintings, surfing in Cornwall and skiing in the Trois Vallees  and knee ops (he’s already had his meniscus done) and soon his phone was charged enough for loads of texts from his girlfriend saying ‘where are you?’  I’m glad he was confident enough to knock on the door and ask ... we saw him outside gazing at us (as although it was dark we’d not shut the blinds yet) He could’ve been walking around for ages. Bless.  :)

and did he pay you, Dove?  :D
It's rather nice that he felt he could ask you, and also nice that you didn't feel it was a ruse of some kind. I'm not sure I would be so welcoming.
Not sure if that says something about me or society in general either... :/

They're talking about the impending 30th anniversary of Lockerbie on the news. It stills sends shivers up my back.
