today as as a stocking filler for my very angry very politically aware son. I heartily recommend it as a highly perceptive commentary on the current situation

let us not forget that even in first world countries there are poor and disadvangated people being badly neglected while all this hoo-hah carries on and others who fear for their jobs, incomes and thus homes and futures.
I don't Obs, that's my point, really. Those of us just trying to make a living so we can do the work of everyday life - food, housing, healthcare - are currently being hampered at best, totally obstructed at worst, by the total paralysis the whole economy is suffering while the rich kids run around the playground shouting 'look at me'. The whole thing is a total waste of money that we can't afford and they are dragging it all out for as long as they can - on both sides.
They seem to have absolutely no sense of proportion, or care for those caught in the crossfire.

If MPs' pay and pentions were based on performance I suspect they would be behaving rather more responsibly. As it is, they have a very healthy salary and a guaranteed pension regardless of any other income from other jobs/consultancies/directorships and no need even to attend sessions.

By my reckoning, we could still give out the 4.4 billion pounds a year in grants and subsidies, and still have 8.9 billion left over for hospitals and filling in potholes and sorting the other infrastructure.
We are one of only six that pays in more than we get out. The other 21 countries take out more than they give.

What strikes me is that there are a lot of politicians whose priority seems to be to feather their own nests, that think they know better than the people who elected them, and there are a lot of turkeys voting for xmas at the moment.
Years to go yet! And tonight's vote won't stop the plotters.
The thing about EU funding to the regions is that it was part of an EU wide directive to improve infrastructure/job opportuities/living standards. I really don't see any evidence that the UK government has or will fund such projects in the future while they remain so London-centric. Just look at the money being spent on Crossrail and compare that with funding to public transport services in the southwest or the north.
