Mary, I'm so sorry. What awful news. I hope you both have good friends.

Didn't come here yesterday, was doing my Christmas card list and writing my Christmas letter. Needed to get stuck into something cheerful. It was the 20th anniversary of the death of my 1st OH on the 24th and the anniversary of the first wife of my 2nd OH on the 25th. We were so lucky to find each other, but as we were both loving our previous spouses when they died it's always a bit of a sticky time.

We went out in the afternoon to get more gas cylinders and take the Carol Service booklet to the printers.

I've just taken OH to the station, train to Paris. Then airport. He's going to Edinburgh for his niece's graduation.

Later this morning I'm going to dentist son for my crown. A bit more fell off the other day, I hope it was the temporary filling not the tooth as he took an impression for the crown.
Then this afternoon a friend is having a craft session to make Christmas wreaths so I will go to that.

  • Mary so sorry to hear you have such a sad time ahead. I can’t find words without sounding trite ... but my thoughts are with you both.
Thinking also of others who are facing difficult times.

    Morning all/afties , evening Pat.
So sorry to hear your news Mary. We can't offer you any physical support here, but we can offer you the other kinds whenever you need it. Sending love to you and all your family.
Sorry it wasn't great news for you doc, but as the others have said, you have some positive  news for Moira, so that will help soften the blow.
Cold and frosty here again, but it looks like the wet stuff is coming later, rather then the sun we got yesterday when the fog cleared. The usual idiots without proper lights on going to work of course. Fog down south today I believe, so take care anyone who is travelling.
LP - I had a problem with some of the photos too, but it wasn't Liri's that were too big - it was fidget's lovely ones from N'foundland a while ago. It's worth opening a separate page to let them do their thing, while you browse elsewhere. 'Pooter was updating last night, so I'll get more time later to check them out. What I saw was fab.  :)
Better go and feed the greedy birds and get to work. Catch you all later - stay warm ....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I've seen Liri's photos now on the Camera thread. Superb. Internet must be better today, I waited a few minutes then they appeared.

I'm so sorry Mary.  You must both be feeling devastated.   A friend has had similar news about her own health and, understandably, spent a couple of weeks in shock but is now busily trying to sort out as much as possible so her OH is OK when she's gone - pensions and stuff.   It's really hard but friends and family will get you thru.   Virtual hugs heading your way and feel free to come on here for distraction or when you need to vent.

Hugs for you too Busy and anyone else with reasons to feel sad or distressed.

Chicky - hope it's a successful trip for you.  Good luck with the jet lag coming home.

We have rain.    Who's a lucky girl?!   Patch homework then.

    Stay safe and warm everyone.

  • @Mary370 - so sorry to hear your news.  We will be thinking about you and your OH - I do hope you have plenty of support from nurses, friends and family.

  • Sorry, forgot to say hello...  HELLO!!   :)

We've reverted to grey and dull again here, after a pretty good day yesterday.  The "cheering up OH" daylight lamp is in regular use.

The boiler engineer came yesterday as promised, but is due to return today with a spare part.  We'll see.

I'm trying to sort out Mum's affairs.  Sister (who was dealing with Mum's day-to-day finances) sent a death certificate and covering letter to the bank branch whose address was on her cheque book, but had no reply.  Sis is now in New Zealand for a month so I'm following it up... first thing I've found is that the branch closed in May... letter is probably in a pile behind the front door.  *Sigh*  But now I've got another death certificate returned from the solicitor, found the correct address & have my fingers crossed that all will be well.

Glad the photos are coming through at last.  Thanks for kind comments - but to be honest, Madeira's such a lovely place it's easy to take good photos.  I used the phone camera; I've got lazy about taking the proper camera abroad... especially with a 6Kg weight limit for hand luggage.

I have finally had a call from the plumber.  Sending his chaps on the 7th of December to finish off the shower room and replace a couple of old taps elsewhere.  Birthday present for OH who will be 27 again that day but not get a lie-in as they arrive at 8am.

Good luck with the paperwork Liri.   Why would a bank not arrange for mail to be forwarded?   Frustrating.

I like my proper camera cos it has an eye piece so I can see what I'm photographing.  If I use the screen I need my reading glasses.  Same if I use the phone and then I also need to get OH to send the photos to my PC amidst much muttering.   In summer my handbag is big enough to fit a propera camera and a bottle of water but my big winter handbag is now getting scruffy and, since I bought it at the market in Leuven years ago, is not replaceable.   Haven't seen any other leather bags I like and hate plastic so I may just make one from fabric.
