Yes, we liked that theatre/jazz routine too. I didn't get the story telling but I did think it was cleverly conceived and very well danced. Katya's doll routine was indeed very clever but I felt uncomfortable watching it because, apart from the flekel which he did well, he was just slightly off the beat the whole way through. Horrid. Didn't like Raj's dance either.
Thought Kate's rumba was badly under-marked. She had rhythm and hips and looked stunning too. Loved the Dr Who routine and Joe's foxtrot and the Pashly Charleston and Charles' jive apart from the tweeny toes.
Good show with plenty of improvement and some great costumes but I really do prefer it when it's all about the dance so look forward to a good dance off tomorrow and a normal show with fewer gimmicks next Saturday.

Oh yes the Pashley charleston, that bloomin' tune has been in my head all night ! I confess to a soft spot for Pasha, even when he has a green face and fake belly !
Some interesting routines , costumes where very good , where they more important than the dances ? Dr Who dance was very good , not sure how that fitted in with a Halloween 🎃 Should be an interesting dance-off tonight
Trying to avoid any spoilers, l was surprised that the couple who were saved in the dance off were there, l was expecting someone else ! I also thought that the couple who did go danced better than the couple who were saved, although l realise that's subjective.
Saturday I saw the light along with the Psychedelic Kaleidoscope on the floor ceiling walls and hiding the dancers not forgetting the smoke to hide the feet. Having polished my ear trumpet piled up the cushions to throw at the screen and opened the dictionary at suitable words to shout at the TV and all going to plan when one of the singers hit 160 decibels putting ripples on my cocoa and shattering the nice biscuit on the plate. Suddenly I was at peace, this was not for us old hands who had been there done it enjoyed it, this was Saturday night wall paper, the mind set of producers presenters who had no interest what happens on the floor it is more what happens off it. Another million viewers a feather in their caps I settled back and watched the spectacle for what it is, we are being manipulated (sorry remove the MAN as it is offensive to the PC mob though that leaves the nipulate bit open to misuse). Peace, much like your tank coming to a stop and engine off, you could hear the flies buzzing the Kite hawks squawking and the Camels grumbling. They can alter the programme out of any semblance to a competition but they cannot remove the wonderful memories of the Locarno's Palais, and best of all the Tower Ballroom Blackpool, Peggy Spencer must be spinning in her grave. Cushions are back on the couch, ear trumpet has a pair of old socks stuffed in it, in future I watch sound down, brain out of gear and imagine Hamilton and Vettel doing laps around the floor, even smell the burning tyres "err" shoes waiting for them to lose grip on the corners and vanish into the crowd. As to the new dances do Mathematical rules apply all that Trigonometry and Geometry plus a little Calculus must be required, afraid it is over my head. Frank.
@Palaisglide, hope you are well Frank and not too discombobulated by Saturday night's viewing. Strictly certainly has changed out of all recognition. Every now and again, a classic dance pops up, with the gentleman in tails, but that is rarer than hen's teeth. As you say, it is now Saturday night entertainment for the 21st century. I understand why they went for someone like Joe Sugg (me neither) for the younger generation, and to his credit he is taking it seriously and seems a pleasant young man. If it gets "the young people" interested in dancing, then that is all to the good. As for the shennanigans off the dancefloor, if people are to be believed it was going on from the very first series, difference was there was no social media and people filming on their phones everywhere. I shall carry on watching, fast forwarding etc, mainly because there are usually at least 2 dances l like, and there's not a lot on on a Saturday night - X Factor anyone ?
Diana 1 and AnniD having danced to the correct music the correct beat and steps from an early age as you both probably have it pains me to see what was once a lovely programme dragged down to the depth. I do remember Peggy Spencer and her dance group having danced at Blackpool and the Hammersmith Palais among many places I passed through, Peggy believed in the correct costume for each dance you saw wonderful footwork and it made you want to get up and do the same. I also saw Bill and Bobby Irvine as they danced in competition, they were held in the big ballrooms and general dancing between events, I got to dance with some of those competitive Ladies, if you wish to learn go to to the top. My late wife was also a dancer and we continued to dance until illness took her from me, I have not danced since though I did have strictly. Not any more it seems, yes I will watch only not with jaundiced eye as i did before. Not a scene more a Panorama the long distance view to save me going banana's. Blackpool will be my highlight as I am certain no one is too interested in an actual winner, they cannot dim my wonderful memories of that hall and the one next to it, I danced in both. As those memories sink into the mists of time much like double digging real lawns the only wood in the garden being trees and the old Cabin smelling of creosote damp compost and mouldy pots, now carpets of plastic, outside rooms highly decorated and more furniture than in the house, I too will sink into the west singing those olde fashioned songs we once danced too. Feisty as ever still cogent and spitting fire, Frank.

Have to agree about who was in the dance off but disagree about the last dance. The judges got that right altho the choreography was much cleverer.
