    Morning.
Raining here - looks like an Autumn day.

Yum Blackberries...they will freeze well if you have room, so you can add them to cakes, crumbles and other baked goodies over the Autumn/Winter. Put a handful in the fridge overnight and have on morning cereals etc is good too.

    Have a fab Friday folks.
Aunty; I still have about 2kg in the freezer from last year! I had plans for crumbles and all sorts all winter... But didn't manage to eat enough to make a dent in the freezer space!

@Dovefromabove a jam recipe would be wonderful please! I'm thinking of doing a jam run and having them as little gifts for everyone. I've also seen blackberry wine mentioned. I don't like wine myself but I'm tempted to give it ago.

Managed to escape out of the while it was quiet. The mobile is on but I'm hopeful *touches wood*

It's very grey here: but no rain yet. I don't want to have to get the watering can put!!

I should be going to Hillsborough to get the dog meat to prep another months worth of meals. I really can't think of anything worse I've no energy this afternoon. So I'm going to be sensible and set an alarm for 17:00 and just vegeitate for a while.

My freezer is full of last years apples!
we have blackberries in the fruit cage but we also have  loganberries and blackberry bushes outside which the birds are welcome to. Plenty for all!

oh been on the M6 for hours trying to bring family home. Shocking accident holding things up.  My father always said “no such thing as an accident it’s bad driving, accidents are unavoidable”

hope everyone well and safe and remember to drive the way you did when you passed your test.

    Here you are @Clarington    :)

    Blackberry and Apple Jam

    1.8 kg blackberries
    300 ml water
675 g peeled, cored and sliced cooking applies (prepared weight)
    2.75 kg sugar

Pick over the blackberries and place them in a pan with half the water.
Bring to the boil then simmer until tender but not squishy
Place the apples in a separate pan with the remaining water and cook until the fruit is quite soft.
Add the apples to the blackberries.
Add the sugar and stir until it has dissolved, then bring jam quickly to a rolling boil and boil hard until setting point is reached.

Pot into hot sterilised jars and seal.

Using 'Jam sugar' will help ensure a good set as it has added pectin.

Contrary to popular belief Preserving sugar doesn't have  added pectin ... it's best suited to jelly making as it has larger crystals and gives a 'clear set'.

The blackberries are amazingly big and juicy this year - I'd expected them to be a bit pippy, due to the drought, but apparently not.  I love blackberry and apple with my muesli.   :)
@LG_ - we're going to Ireland, beginning with daughter and family south of Galway, then spending a week B&B on the shores of Loch Derg, in Tipperary - watching the rain, I suspect... but having a rest too.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

    Morning all.
I had a bit of a lie in after sleeping for 9 hours!!!!!
Maybe the de-caf tea is working after all? I don't want to tempt fate, but fingers crossed.

Good morning Hosta 😀. I really have to limit my caffeine in the afternoon/evening ... it does make a difference. Glad you slept well  :)
