Evening all. Not much to report here. Another nice sort of day - one I could have spent doing loads of jobs outdoors. Pity I had to work. I had a little timber storage box delivered. Will hopefully get it put together in the next few days. It's for all sorts of 'stuff' which will be handier near the back door to save going back and forward to the shed. I think I could elevate it a bit and the top will double as a little potting bench. Will see. Pat - I saw some footage a while ago which showed an aerial view of a piece of parched land with one solitary cow walking away from a spot where there should have been a water source. It was quite depressing , to put it mildly. That cake sounds slightly disturbing Obelixx. Not sure I want to ask what the poke bit means....

Make cake, poke with the handle of a wooden spoon to make holes at regular intervals. Pour over the orange curd so it fills the holes, covers the top and dribbles down the sides. That part is fine, tho odd, but it's the coffee orange combo that worries me.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

GRRRRRRR Mr Grumpy here. 8 hours cutting grass and it's still not finished. My lovely neighbour in the annexe came out at 7.15 with a sausage butty to keep me going but I gave up at 8 and came in. My hands were starting to ache with the cold.
I've switched the heating on and I'm having a cup of decaf tea ( I'm sooooo Rock 'n'Roll ) then I'm going for a shower then settle down to First Dates Hotel.

Ah - I see. I don't like orange at all [especially the choc/orange combo that folk like so much] so I'm not likely to make it anyway! Perhaps a chocolate syrup type of thing would work instead? None too cosy here either, Hosta after a decent day. Cool and windy. Rain to come overnight too I think.

It's just cr*p. Half past 8 and all the lights are on and the heating . It's still only August. I HATE winter and it's coming fast. 11 weeks today and we're off to The Gambia for some sun and heat.
We have thunder and lightning rumbling and flashing to the south of us. The rain radar map shows heavy rain moving up the coast from Bordeaux area to La Rochelle and on almost up to the Ile de Ré so it's about 45kms away. I hope there's some left by the time it gets to us.
Bacon butty sounds just the job Hosta.
Not sure about the orange curd anyway FG. I like my lemon curd fairly sharp so think orange would be a tad sweet.

I've just caved in and stuck the heating on too for a little while to take the edge off. I went out to put hoggie's food out - it's 12 degrees and windy, so I don't feel guilty! I've often had heating on in summer, when I've had a long hill day. You can suddenly get cold after being warmed up in the car on the way home, having a shower, and then just sitting- literally 'chilling'. Bake Off was lovely.

We've just watched it too and enjoyed it. Possum has never had a wagon wheel either and muttered all the way through that "biscuits are dry!". Apparently the selfie was a challenge in junior GBBO last year.
