Lenny the leopard spotted cat(our neighbours) is a hunter. Mice, voles , frogs, birds, flies, basically anything that moves. Since I took a frog (that lived) and a couple of mice(that didn't),off of him, now as soon as he has caught anything, he quickly goes over the fence to make a present for his mum. Interesting that although he spends most of the day with us, he still sees his owners as the people to give presents to. We only got the one dead squirrel laid on the doorstep. My mums cat always used to give her live presents. Then we had to chase mice around the house with a fishing net to catch them. The baby rabbit he caught survived. We took it back up the field and let it go.
More planting today. I have started cutting stocks and gypsophila, and the first vase of sweet peas.
Did your grandchildren find the garden fairies LilyP? Glad the roof has been proved watertight Liri. Great photo Hosta - what a lovely little vista.
Hope the open day goes well today Lizzie - its hard work getting everything in shape for one day. Looking forward to the pics next time you’re in Norfolk.
Gardening yesterday, more weeding and all my new plants in - the greenhouse now only has toms and cukes in. Driving to Bham today to bring littlest Chicklet home for the summer 🎉. Leaving Mr C at home as I think we might have a car full 😳
Oh it's it the open garden today? Best of luck for a lovely day BusyL! Hope you enjoy your time with Chicklet Chicky! Bet they'will be a car full of washing amongst other things and two happy Chicks singing along to the radio! Fidget, Flatters is a hunter too but runs away with them in case someone spoils his fun!
Hello all! Internet was playing up this morning, but here you all are now...
OH loves strawberries but we now suspect they are making his IBS much worse. I've bought some jam sugar because we have more strawberries this year than we've ever had - I've given some to the neighbours to thank them for their patience with the scaffolding and noise, but jam (and maybe strawberry ice cream?) looks like the way to go now.
Hope the coal face isn't too taxing, Hosta, and that the rest of you enjoy your Sunday.
Oops. Think I got the day wrong for BL's open garden...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Hope it all went well you have such a beautiful garden Busy. I reckon by the time you read this you will be sitting with something to drink in your hand 🤞
Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.” A A Milne
Liri... Strawberry margaritas. Blitz the strawberries with crushed ice, a squirt of lime juice and a slug of tequila, or rum if you prefer strawberry daquiri. That should keep the neighbours happy.
Hello all. It didn't rain! Quite cloudy and cool though, with sunny periods.
Half the usual number of people came, rather disappointing. Only 24, not counting family and helpers. Last year it was 57. As it's the 4th year I think people have all seen it. The French just don't seem very interested in gardens. 4 French came and they were very complementary. An English couple came from some way and said it was an inspiration and the best one they'd seen. Another couple said they'd come from 50 minutes away and it didn't disappoint. So that was nice. I gave a lot of cake to the daughters. There was too much. The coffee and walnut turned out very well, despite the flatness, inside was good. Sold nearly all the plants, my left over annuals. Definitely not doing it next year.
Just had a glass of wine, Lily P.
Shall take it easy this week.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
