  • Hello fellow Cottage Gardeners,i'm back after a fraught few days, thank you for your good wishes,i don't see how anything else can go wrong with me this year! I did have a chuckle at the Consultant on Sunday......he said I will try not to make it too painful, but I will give you the maximum sedation for your age!😊. It made me think that the youngsters get it done painfree!
The steroid, cortisone injection in the hip has worked,I can't tell you what a wonderful feeling it is after all these months, maybe I won't need the rail 😊 just have to have physio now with heavy weights and complete bed rest??  Weird?

It's been lovely to catch up on the posts, and see the gorgeous Amyrilis. I have cream Tulips out,and the shed has arrived and so,other half is happily occupied putting in electric.

I too could join you in the cast of Les Mis, I remember my daughter knew every single word everyone spoke in the Sound of Music! Shows my age!
@nultyphilip224 what an interesting life you have had so far, I will have to read these last few posts all over again.
In the meantime,a pic of the little shed!

@Valley Gardener. First of all it's good to see you back. Thought you may have got lost in your new shed! But also I have just had a look on the Tarw thread and your painting of Morwenna is beautiful. To be honest I think it is better than the photo. I am sure the gentleman will be over the moon. Your shed looks nice and compact and just fits in nicely. Do hope it stays tidy for you. Will you have room to pot up and sow etc.? Your garden looks good and you have a pond. Any frogs? So pleased your hip is feeling a lot better. It must be such a relief so hopefully the physio will help even more and don't forget the bed rest.

@nultyphilip224. It's surprising what happens when you take yourself away from a problem and find the answer. Simple to you but rather complicated for me! I checked my order for Neem oil in case I was wrong but it was 1 litre and the price included the postage. I don't think it has any other ingredients in it. Will make it up as you explained previously in a spray bottle. Maybe my lupins will survive this year. Looking at the photos of your Amaryllis I don't think I would ever be able to photograph anything I have grown to compete with it or any of your other plants. Is it outdoors? My Hellebore is still doing well. Bought some compost and rooting powder and sown some Cosmos seeds just as a practice run to see if I can produce anything. Most people on the forum are successful so who knows.

@Purplerain I managed to get a lot of episodes of The Edible Garden on iplayer but couldn't find the one from last Sunday. Maybe it will show up later but then I am not too good at searching and may have missed it.
The weather here was the same as yesterday. Very promising first thing and then clouding over with the rain arriving at the time I am ready to garden. Only managed to refill the bird feeders. I can stand in the shed and look out at all that has to be done and just have to be satisfied with a bit of planning.

Hope you have all had a good day  :)

  • @Purplerain,..that Amaryllis will really come into its own when the four blooms appear on top,..today it opened a little more so another two or three days should do it.

I was thinking of you today as i spotted a wee bulb no bigger than a large Pea just about popped up out of the soil completely,..so i plunged my finger into the soil and returned it to its friends below,..as you would  :)

Oh a link to 'The Edible Garden'.

    https://youtu.be/OhS4ezwZ9Pw

There are a few episodes on the same page and depending on your Browser you may have the means to download in that Browser,..failing that Booking is a good idea,..or a Free Video Screen Capture Program.

I had an old rose,..it was white and a climber,..producing masses of white blooms,..suddenly it would drop its petals which looked like snow on the ground,..alas as you mentioned it only flowered the once,..so i gave it away.

Good morning all, hope you are all well  :) Got out in the garden yesterday , inspired by Philip and Geoff. Really feeling it this morning though ! Prepared a spot for a rose called "Hot Chocolate",  not to everyone's taste l know, and sadly it has no perfume, but l love the colour. @Purplerain l love musicals, saw Miss Saigon twice and Les Mis three times. If they ever needed someone from the audience to take over in Les Mis, l reckon l could do it . Know it word for word, not so sure about the singing bit though......
@nultyphilip224, noticed that when l asked you about the name of that pulmonaria, you had already named it underneath the photo. Should have gone to Specsavers. Thank you for being too polite to point that out ! Have a good day all.
Lol at should have gone to Specsavers   :)
Ah good news that you got out into the garden,..delighted also that you were inspired :)
Well done on your Rose ( Rosa 'Hot Chocolate' ) a lovely colour indeed sometimes described as 'Hot Cocoa'/Nubya/Kiwi/ it may have origins in Australia or New Zealand,..i looked it up and its colour is sometimes described as Chocolate Orange,..nice addition to your garden.

  • @Fran IOM,..i have every confidence your Lupins will do well this year once you spray the Neem Oil,..with added Liquid Soap,..give them a good spraying,..on the under leaf in particular as there are bound to be lots of wee creatures just waiting gleefully for fresh Lupins to scoff lol,..though i shouldn't laugh as they can devastate plants very quickly,..i have being killing off snails and slugs since early February and not a snail or slug to be seen,.. thankfully,..so you can well imagine you will have lots of those very small  snails.

The Amaryllis is indoors this side of the pond,..in parts of America its an outdoor plant,..though it would be fine to give it an outdoor treat during a warm summer,..at present the plant is about 90cm high,..each bloom should be 15cm or more across.

    See how tall below.

  • @Valley Gardener,..delighted to read that all is well with you,..what a change for you after that treatment,..just don't overdo things,..weights you say lol,..go light on them you don't want to end up like Arnold in 'Conan The Barbarian' :).

I was admiring your new shed,..congrats,..it looks good and you will have electricity installed by now to make it a comfortable work shed,..oh nice view of the valley as well.

    Welcome back and keep well.

loving your posts Phillip and your wonderful photos. I am having trouble getting Neem oil so will try Amazon Fran IOM. Thanks
     x
@moragb1,..thank you,..i hope you manage to get the Neem Oil,..i keep forgetting about Amazon,..only because i don't hear people mention it so much over here,..just my local Pharmacy sells it here but the other three Pharmacies in town don't,..it amazes me how much the local one sells to gardeners.

On my walk with Foxy Molly i spotted lots of yellow looking flowers,..not Dandelions,..so i must look them up,..i just noticed there are no leaves?

I have found the link on youtube, so will pass a few hours watching the edible garden @nultyphilip224, and thanks for the iplayer idea @Fran IOM. I am spoilt for choice.

What a tidy shed @Valley Gardener, and I think I might have the same metal trellis as you. I bought two yesterday and I plan to weave sweet pea and/or clematis through them. Not sure where to put them yet.

@AnniD, lucky you seeing Le Mis three times. It's a wonderful show! The only popular show I won't go to is War Horse. I know it's "only a puppet" as everyone keeps telling me, but I just can't do it lol.

Still wet here, but the clocks go forward this week, so that's a bonus.

  • @ Purple rain, they were meant for just that, but I ended up sticking them either side of the path as  "steadier" on my precarious route down........fingers crossed,no longer needed,it's amazing,i feel as if a miracle has happened!
