Hi to all. Just a day not posting and there is so much to read! It's difficult to post during the day as I am bound to get interrupted and wondered if I saved to draft would it just be there waiting for me to pick up later? Never quite sure if it interferes with anyone else's post.
@nultyphilip224. So many more photos since I last posted! I've heard of cats having other homes to visit during the day where they are made welcome. As long as she comes home later that's the main thing. I know what you mean about doing things that really don't need doing. I managed an hour this afternoon and although it was a sunny day it was still cold with very heavy showers so didn't want to get involved in anything too much in case I got interrupted by rain and had to stop and leave something which needed to be finished. Had a look to see if there were any self seedings from the foxgloves but just normal looking weeds at the moment. Still time no doubt. This morning I caught the last part of Great British Garden Revival which was very interesting and although I didn't think I would like it also watched The Edible Garden and really enjoyed that. Both were on BBC2 and well worth watching on You Tube if you can get access. They were followed by Gardeners World which I had already seen on Friday.
Where do you buy your Neem oil? I could buy it online but it comes as already made up in a spray. I feel it would be much cheaper to have the oil and make up your own spray. Do have slug pellets but like you would prefer not to use them if there is an alternative.
@Purplerain I would love to have a go on the machine on Tipping Point! You did well puzzling over Philip's West End career!  I have never been to the theatre and don't know if it is something I would enjoy. Will never know unless I try it out some time.
@AnniD I know what you mean about Geoff Hamilton. Must be years ago now and I don't think I could have had much of a garden at that time if any. Here's hoping we all get some decent gardening weather this week.
    Hope @Valley Gardener is OK.
Only just read your last post Philip on the next page. Can pick up on that next time.

  • @Fran IOM,..you could try a small draft to see would it work,..it would be terrible to make a large post and find you lost it,..saving a draft on an email account is fine.

Before i forget,..you asked where to get the Neem Oil,..my local Pharmacy sells it but many others don't stock it,..some Garden Centres sell it,..we have Honeypot Stores who also sell it though the same type of shop in England would be i suppose 'Health Shop',..selling special soaps and natural medicines,..Neem Oil varies in strength and its not necessary to get the purest,..nearly all of the oils are Non Toxic as they are used by people for skin ailments,..or just to benefit skin,..or even reduce wrinkles.

    The usual added Ingredients can be as follows;

    Sweet Almond Oil.
    Kernel Oil.
    Bergamot Oil.
    Rosemary Oil.
    Eucalyptus Oil.

Does not harm humans,..Pets,..Butterflies,..Bee's,..but will deter insects and slugs from eating foliage,..the Neem Oil i have contains all of the above ingredients,..cost £11.50

Two interesting links below about Neem Oil both for garden and human uses.

So you were garden watching programs,..i always find something of interest and new to me,..however last night i remained up to watch the World Welterweight fight from Texas,..very exciting 12 rounds then went to bed at around 0500 Sunday morning.

@nultyphilip224, interesting story about the British hospital. I am glad you all parted as friends lol.

It will be interesting to see how your lupins turn out. I grew "Band of Nobles, My Castle" last Autumn and they will go out soon. I have no idea if they are salmon pink, dark pink or deep red. All the colour images are different, but I was hoping for orange 😀. We will see. I don't know if this will work, but I potted up a tiny bit of bulb from an Oriental poppy that seemed to be shooting up apart from the main plant. It's still alive, have you ever tried that?

@Fran IOM I really love musicals, but if it is a good play then I will go to that. If you get the chance you should give it a try. You can always walk out at the interval if you don't like it. I did take a guess about Philip, but to be fair he gave some good clues. Good luck with the weather.

All the best to @AnniD and @Valley Gardener.

@nultyphilip224  Hi Philip  I have just tried saving to draft and left it for a while and gone back and it was still there waiting so thanks for that as I now know it works.
I ordered a litre of Neem oil on Amazon for just under £10. There were sprays already made up for slightly less but thought it would be more economical to make my own.
My Echiums were attacked by Sawfly and I don't think they will amount to anything this year. If I had been able to spray them with Neem oil do you think that would have deterred the sawfly? The one I ordered is pure organic. Hope that will be ok.
    Thanks for the interesting links.

The Edible Garden programme is quite amazing. Youngish girl who has a very small back garden and two chickens and what she has managed to achieve I feel she could become self sufficient.

Hope you have managed to catch up on your sleep after the boxing.

@Purplerain  I'll have to think about going to a play at sometime. We do have a few over here but wouldn't have the nerve to walk out at the interval!
We shall have to wait for the publication of Philip's book to learn some more!
Really thought today was going to be an afternoon of gardening. Much milder with no wind and then down came the rain. Maybe tomorrow... I am so impatient.

Hello to @Valley Gardener and @AnniD

  • @Purplerain,..ah yes we all parted company the best of friends though there was a debate about a word i used in the Scrabble,..that was 'Muck' lol,..none of the three guys ever heard of it which amazed me,..we had no Dictionary so one of them had to go check with the Nurses,..they confirmed it was legit,..i suppose it didn't help during our debate when i said that 'Muck' was also the Gaelic for Pig  :)

I hope your Lupins produce an orange bloom,..yours will be as interesting as mine when they bloom,..i have started removing the protective chicken wire today,..fingers crossed the cat or Foxy Molly don't plough through them.

That tiny bit of bulb has a great chance of developing,..i have used tiny bits of bulb from the Lilies as as sometimes instead of them remaining close to the parent plant under the soil they were pushed to the surface,..they would not have survived,..so planted in a pot i could check that they survived and developed.

  • @Fran IOM,..well done with the Draft,..nice to know it works,..i keep learning new things about computers,..for example i was trying to figure out an easy way to send a video i had on one laptop,..to another laptop,..it wouldn't go by email as a link or any other way as it was all of 20 mins,..so i went off for a walk,..the solution was so simple its amazing it didn't come to me earlier,..i use the same cordless mouse for both of my laptops,..so copy the video on to the mouse then go to the other laptop and just paste it.

The edible garden was amazing,..goes to show what one can do in a small garden,..we all tend to think we need a huge space to grow things to eat well.

Wow you got a great deal with the Neem Oil,..a Litre for £10,..i only get 100 ml in the bottle i purchase for £11.50,..i am sure the Neem Oil would have deterred the Sawfly,..the information on the Oil gives a great list of insects it deters plus how good it is for protecting against leaf diseases,..oh sometimes i add a Tablespoon of Liquid Soap along with the Tablespoon of Neem Oil to the Litre of water.

Lol i recovered from the short sleep after looking at the boxing,..it was an exciting fight that kept me awake lol.

Philip's expose book,..on the underworld lol.
  • Great signs from my Amaryllis 'Royal Red',..from the one bud it looks like there will be four blooms.

In the first few years it produced eight blooms from the one stem,..maybe it needs more feed?.

Your Amaryllis looks lovely. What a depth of colour! Thanks for spotting my mistake and ignoring it @nultyphilip224. I did mean Oriental Lily, and it's good to know it might survive.

I must try and record the edible garden it sounds very interesting. I do record the Great British Garden Revival, and this week it was about old Roses in the first half and Climbers in the second half. I don't have any old roses, but I have a few of Malorenas threads bookmarked if I ever decide to try some. I must admit to being drawn towards repeat flowerers though, and the old roses only flower once. Do you grow them?

Anyway, enough from me. Going to get some shopping in early and hopefully get out in the garden later. Keep well everyone.

Good morning all, hope you are all well  :) Got out in the garden yesterday , inspired by Philip and Geoff. Really feeling it this morning though ! Prepared a spot for a rose called "Hot Chocolate",  not to everyone's taste l know, and sadly it has no perfume, but l love the colour. @Purplerain l love musicals, saw Miss Saigon twice and Les Mis three times. If they ever needed someone from the audience to take over in Les Mis, l reckon l could do it . Know it word for word, not so sure about the singing bit though......
@nultyphilip224, noticed that when l asked you about the name of that pulmonaria, you had already named it underneath the photo. Should have gone to Specsavers. Thank you for being too polite to point that out ! Have a good day all.
