@Fran IOM,..i nearly missed out seeing your post lol,..i had just finished posting and went back to my email to delete the notifications then spotted you had posted.
Poor old 'Smudge' was a friendly cat,..liked to be picked up and petted,..some of the others never allowed picking up,..my present cat 'Whisper' visits two other houses during the day and is friendly with the occupants but never allows picking up,..she just about allows me to do so,..objects at times but then calms down.
We had a lovely day here today,..no rain until it got dark,..i spent a lot of enjoyable time doing things that really didn't need doing,..i created problems lol,..moved two well established Hollyhocks to another location,..arranged seven rose bushes to be in the same location,..all are in the big containers they started growing in from when they were cuttings last summer,..training other rose bushes to grow how i want them.
Your Foxgloves may still produce seedlings yet,..keep an eye out for them in case you weed them by mistake,..by the end of April there could well be a sign of something,..oh my Delphiniums are now at the 30 cm height,..well protected from birds and cats as they are easily broken when at this height,..i have had Slug Pellets strewn around them and the masses of Lilies also the Lupins,..today i stopped using the Slug Pellets and started spraying everything with a mix of water and Neem Oil,..i tablespoon of Neem Oil in a Litre of tepid water,..tepid to allow the oil and water to mix.
Pigeons must fall out lol,..mine can often be seen alone for a day or more,..i wondered if something happened to one of them and a new partner arrived or did they just have a tiff then made up lol.
I am so looking forward to seeing the results of my Lupins,..apart from the cross colours!,..i have planted some alongside the left of my Delphiniums and others alongside the right side of my Delphiniums,..being a tad smaller than the Delphiniums it should be interesting to see the outcome.
Philip, your photos of the cats made me laugh out loud, especially the one of them all on top of the washing machine. It reminded me of the machine at the arcade where all the pennies hang over the edge, if you know what l mean. Not much gardening done here this week, and the weather today is dreadful, rain and high winds. I have been watching "Geoff Hamilton, a man and his garden". He has been inspiring me all over again, and l am not exaggerating when l say that the photos of your garden inspire me in the same way. Roll on next week and an improvement in the weather!
@AnniD,..ah yes that machine where the pennies hang over the edge,..i remember it well,..always thinking i could make a huge amount fall,..i never did manage that.
Your weather is very similar to ours with a variety of rain/hail/snow/sunny then high winds.
Yesterday was the best day we had for some time,..it was kind enough not to rain until nightfall and boy did it rain,..our River Shannon is well over its banks with some roads flooded,..in the image below you will see a small piece of green land in the middle of the river,..then the following day the water is well over it,..i tend to walk the dog in meadows where that piece of land is now covered and for miles beyond that.
Oh ''Geoff Hamilton'',..i used to follow his garden programs and liked him very much,..he was one of the first and one of the best,..sadly missed.
Thank you for your nice compliment about my garden,.. delighted it inspires you,..at present its more or less the bare bones with everything rushing to grow and bloom and me moving things about so they wont be overshadowed by taller plants.
The Lily Family are really showing some height today.
Geranium Cranesbill,.. have started to introduce themselves.
A splash of colour from Pulmonaria officinalis 'Lungworth',
@AnniD,..i have two patches of this in the garden,..Pulmonaria officinalis 'Lungworth',..may also be described as 'Mary's Tears',..i was given it about eight years ago in a small flowerpot.
You are so far ahead of me @nultyphilip224. I have a cold frame full of lupins, penstemon, potentilla Monarchs Velvet and various other bits and bobs, but the garden is so wet I can't put them out.
I have been puzzling over your West End career and have come to the conclusion that you were a store detective, or a detective of some kind. I am probably wrong though.
I am all theatred out today having attended a Matinee in the afternoon and a play tonight, but as usual I enjoyed it all, and marvel at how actors can remember their lines. I have never been able to remember the lyrics of the simplest song.
I remember the penny fall machine, and when I have time, I enjoy watching Tipping Point on TV. It is kind of exciting.
The photos of the River Shannon are great, a real sense of nature, but surely it will receed soon. I hope so. Well, thats me for tonight and I hope things are good with you Philip and all our friends on here.
@Purplerain,..its the sort of Micro Climate garden here that has things in advance,..the ground is never waterlogged and very little amount of clay,..its mostly a peaty soil with grit and sand producing a dark mixture like seed compost.
Your cold frame is probably very necessary where you are located so take no heed of the difference in growth between your plants and mine,..yours will catch up.
My Lupins are just covered with chicken wire as below,..beyond the chicken wire frame there are Delphiniums,..beyond them are more Lupins,..to left and right and beyond that green container with some spots of paint missing there are seven new rose bushes,..some started from cuttings last summer and others started in early Feb of this year.
Delphinium size now as below.
Phlox 'Windsor',..from cuttings almost ready to be planted out,..there are 8 in total.
The Hibiscus 'Woodbridge' cutting taken last summer looks to be off to a good start.
How the rest of the garden is progressing,..most of the plants on the left were removed from other locations to here as they had self seeded,..Foxgloves and Dark Mullein,..on the right is Perennial Sweet Pea.
Sedum in the long ground containers.
A better view of just some of the new rose bushes.
Aha you hit the nail on the head with your tagging me,..left the Army after just over 13 years,..joined Securicor Mobile Patrols,..left after six years to start a business,..Tropical Fish Aquariums and Aquarium Rentals to Hotels and Surgeries,..gave it up after three years,..Joined Burberry in London as in house Store Detective and Key Holder,..same position with Liberties of Regent St with one exception as a Supervisor,..it was falling into one job after another as they were very similar,..except the wages were over the moon,..too much overtime on offer at either time and a half,..double time,..or treble time,.. for Sunday work,.. netted in 1980's £30.000 Sterling,..i had to refuse overtime when the income tax deductions were getting higher and they were getting more than i was,..for overtime,..one had to be insured for £250.000 when self employed,..when i had enough saved i came home in 1994 and retired at 49 years,..i was slowing down lol.
Wow,..you were well entertained today,..Theatred as you say,..good for you,..though i envy you lol.
Yep,..wishing the river would drop and Foxy Molly and i can prowl around our own area.
Wow, l bet you could tell some tales, maybe you should write a book (where the names have been changed to protect the guilty of course). Hope you and Foxy Molly get out and about, the weather seems to have settled down for now.
@AnniD,..some very unexpected tales,..despite being in the Irish Defence Forces and based in Nicosia Cyprus with the UN,..i was assigned for duty to the British Army,..i presumed everyone there new i wasn't in that Army,..we all wore Khaki Uniforms so i suppose that was part of the mix up,..it was only when i was admitted to a British Army Hospital and was there for a week when my own Commanding Officer and the Adjutant arrived to see me that everyone around me started asking what Regiment i was part of,..my visitors wore dress uniforms not recognised by anyone in the Hospital as British Uniforms,..i had being playing Scrabble with three British Soldiers for a week and they were really confused lol,..i did tell them where i belonged lol,..with the Cavalry Corps,..it used to be called The Blue Hussars.
Bad weather here today,..rain then sunny then hailstones,..thankfully no breeze,..managed to make quick visits out in the garden and for a doggy walk.
