Your hellebores don't seem to mind the cold weather. They all look amazing. Not sure what time of the year is the best time to buy them or they may only be available at a certain time. There is nothing "boring" about your photos Philip. Keep up the good work.
@Fran IOM,..as @Purplerain wrote you can purchase them at anytime is correct,..its only if you were getting them by post that you have to be wary,..now is blooming time,.. so posting will effect the bloom,.. they will recover but i wouldn't recommend disturbing the routine of blooming,..now buying from a Gardening Supplier is fine as its just a matter of taking home the pot and planting.
Very cold and frosty here too. My car is an icebox so I have used one key to keep the engine running, and the other key to lock it. Not that anyone would want to steal my 10 year old Fiat Panda, but I like to be cautious 🙂.
as Fran said, there is nothing boring about your photos Philip. I could be wrong Fran, but I am sure I read that you can plant them at any time. I bought some of mine from Hayloft after Winter a couple of years ago.
Keep warm everyone.
@Purplerain,..looks like the weather is really bad all over,..at 0800hrs this morning i needed tepid water to defrost the ice,..getting home from the doggy walk it started raining and its still at it,..light rain.
Ah nothing wrong with a good old faithful Fiat Panda,..keep it until it finally stops is best,..i know its tempting to want a newer model but if the older car is running along and not costing the earth its a keeper.
My Mahonia japonica has started bearing fruits,..when they mature they can be eaten in a Cereal,..a tad bitter but edible,..the bark is used for tummy upsets though i dare not try that,..this tree is well over 3 meters high and was a cutting back in 2004,..i wanted it for its nice yellow blooms.
Frosty mornings stopped this morning and it was great not to have to clear the frost from the car windows.
Managing to do some gardening despite having my shoulder pop out of its socket,..my Doctor and the Nurse sort of held me down while re positioning it,..oh what fun lol.
I planted a rose bush in half of an old Water Butt that leaked,..its approx a Meter deep,..after two years or more the soil level dropped as did the rose bush,..by about 30cm,..so i wanted to top up with soil without burying the rose crown as i like to leave the crown at ground level.
So i cut the bottom out of a deep flower pot and made a cut from top to bottom so i could spread the pot open letting me place it around the Rose Crown,..now i can fill up the water butt with soil and still have the rose crown above the soil.
Hope the shoulder is a lot better now Philip. What a good idea you had with your rose bush. Must admit it took me a few minutes to fully understand your instructions and then the "penny dropped" after examining the photos. Foxy Molly has such a cute little face and certainly welcomes the sunbeam.
@Fran IOM,..it was more painful after the resetting,..a deep inside sharp pain so i am on 'Zydol',..they work fantastic unless i raise my right arm,..luckily i rest my right arm on the computer mouse pad.
Glad you could understand my instructions re the rose bush,..when someone writes instructions they think everyone can see them as clear,..its seldom the case,..i can never follow Microsoft Instructions on sorting out a problem.
Back to the rose bush and positioning the rose crown at ground level,..that position works well for me but there are others who position the crown below the ground level as they maintain it gives better stability and prevents it from drying out but leaves the crown prone to diseases,..that i can well understand.
Frost has gone here too @nultyphilip224. I broke my right shoulder a few years ago, but although I have no pain, my "reach" is compromised. I hope your pain goes away soon. Lovely pic of Foxy Molly, but not sure about that hand lol.

Sorry your reach is compromised,..a break is far worse than mine just popping out and not for the first time,..i stopped taking the 'Zydol',..i was groggy,..now using 'Voltarol',..its a great Gel as it gets in deep and works very quickly.
Great to read your frost has gone,..we had a calm sunny day here and so ventured in a northerly direction along the river.
So sorry to hear of your predicament Philip,i hope you are getting pain relief now.I can sympathise.Lovely pics as usual. I had my first day in the garden, just half an hour or so,checking if my Clems were still around,as I thought my expensive ones had died, but not so,I can just see new tips. I cut back the montanas, and planted a hosta in a tub,the poor thing had been lying in the garden from late last summer!! They are very good tempered! Foxy Molly looks very comfy and smiling.😊
Ps Trialled my rail very good!😊
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@Valley Gardener,..pain is almost gone now except when i forget myself and stretch upwards,..this was not a good week accident wise,..though i consider myself very lucky,..i have a 90cm Aquaria with four electrical components,..one is an Aerator which is just peeping above the surface of the water,..as i was heading into the kitchen there was a big bang and a flash which came from the Aquarium,..it took ages to figure out what was the cause as the fuse had tripped as well so no point in resetting the fuse until i found the fault,..it was the Aerator part which just peeps above the surface,..its wire had frayed and as water hit the exposed wire when fish created a wave,..boom and flash,..lucky i wasn't working on the tank with my arm or hand in the water.
That's great news about your rail and in time you will find it easier as you pace yourself,..nice that you managed to get out to do some gardening and that your poor Hosta survived,..like you my Clematis is showing lots of life,..even buds have appeared,..don't overdo the gardening,..a little and often will get you there.
Hellebore 'Double Ellen Red',..finally the blooms are opening,..the blooms darken quite a lot within a few days.
Someone is complaining about my work left on the couch
