  • Your Hellebores are beautiful Philip. Nothing in the garden here has been really frosted yet, still a few Bidens and Bacopa struggling to flower. I dug up my one Dahlia, and wrapped it in newspaper when the leaves went black.I thought it best to see how I got on with one before getting more.
The rustic rail is in place, but I haven't tried it yet. Made of a couple of long straight branches.  I need to find something to twine up it?
Very hard to find Foxy! Is that her on the left?

@nultyphilip224  I have taken a very keen interest in Hellebores since seeing yours! It would be nice to have some winter colour. I agree that Winter Pansies are always cheerful looking plants and always seem to do well.
@Fran IOM ,..they are beautiful to have at winters end and into spring and beyond,..you don't need to care for them and they are great to divide,..mine are all in containers now and close to the back door so i can show them off,..they were under a large Fuchsia and doing well there as it gave them that growing in a woods feeling,..problem was the leaves falling from the Fuchsia covered them and spoiled their appearance.

That is a great photo. I didn't realise you were so close to civilisation, and yes I did spot Foxy Molly.
@Purplerain,..that's where civilization ends lol,..standing looking at the weir you see houses but looking to the left there are no houses for mile upon mile,..walking from my house it takes less than five minutes to leave civilization behind me,..going in three different directions which is a bonus.

Well done spotting Foxy Molly,..she blended in with the brown reeds.

In the first image i am standing with the weir on my right,..now looking down river from there.

Not great images as it was a misty morning at 0830.

A later image from further downriver along that path.

@Valley Gardener,..i hope the frost keeps away for you,..they have snow up north of here,..in the six counties,..luckily we just had two mornings of frost.

So you also spotted Foxy Molly in that shot,..not easy,..well done.

I just have one or two Dahlia Pom Poms which i leave in the garden,..some people dig theirs up and store them over winter,..which is the wise thing,..my garden is warm enough in Autumn and Winter for them to survive.

Ah so the rail is in place,..let us know how you managed with it,..(twine up it?).

Me doing a spot of gardening back in 1963.

Helebores have been discussed quite a lot on the forum over the past few days. On the thread "Confessions - seduction and sticky labels" one member has shown an offer of 10 for £10! Must be sensible and think of where I can fit them in....
  • Seeing the church in the snow made me think you are in a village, don't spoil it for us and say you have a Mc Donalds nearby!
I was thinking of a morning glory or similar,it's just to soften the look.

My Hellebores 'Double Ellen Red',..is struggling to open,..almost there.

One great advantage being a member of Gardenersworld is you can see from month to month what other gardeners have growing through the seasons,..then pick something for your own garden so you have something in bloom for the 12 months.

Lol,..it could never be that bad with a Mc Donalds nearby,..thankfully i have the choice of countryside West,..South,..and North of me,..within a very short walk,..the town is East.

Oh i see what you mean by twine around the hand rail,..you have a huge range of plants that will twine around,..Hyacinth Bean Vine is a quick growing one,..seeds are as big as a Pea,..i have three to give away,..plus Morning Glory 'Milky Way',..and Morning Glory 'Picotee Red',..free postage,..you could also have that artificial grass wrapped around the rail,..just a thought :)

Just had an email from Gardeners' World for an offer from T&M. 5 Hellebores niger for price of postage £5.65. Would you consider that to be a good offer and would they all be white? Very tempted  :)
