Ten years ago I had room in my home and heart for another cat and contacted Cat Protection League. They brought me a feral kitten but it didn't work out. She was terrified and vicious with my other cat and all humans. Eventually my son said he would take her. I would like to say she calmed down, but despite having a lovely tranquil home by the sea she is still the same. She sits on top of the fridge waiting to claw any passing human lol.

The rose is lovely @nultyphilip224 and I can see signs of life in the cuttings I took last year. Oh, by the way, I am 'D' 🙂.

  • Fabulous rose!  Have you ever stuck a cutting in a potato to root? That method popped up on my tablet yesterday, and seems too good to be true.....but anything's worth a try!
I'm fostering my neighbours peach climber, they had  lot of building work to do and the poor old rose got hoiked out by the digger,so we quickly dug a big hole (big rose) and I thought well that's it gone now,but yesterday I noticed all new growth! I don't really have room for it,but their garden is still full of rubble. The things we do to save a sentimental plant!!😊
@Valley Gardener,..ah yes the rose cutting in the potato,..it does work,..either just stick it in the middle of the potato with or without Rooting Gel or Rooting Powder,..i first found out about it from a friend in Ohio,..i have a Rose ( Rosa 'Korresia' ) which i failed every time to get the cutting to take,..my friend ( Carolyn ) told me about the potato method,..i tried it and i now have at least four cuttings of Rose ( Rosa 'Korresia' ),..thank you Carolyn as i know you look at this thread  :)

Delighted to see you saved your neighbours rose,..shame to have to move it again in the future,..maybe you could make room someplace and maybe your neighbour might let you keep it,..i always like to hear of a plant being saved,..one becomes fond of plants and the like.

Hi @nultyphilip224 How happy all those cats look together. How you managed to feed 16 cats twice a day I don't know! What did you feed them on? Would be too expensive to buy prepared cat food. I know if I were in your position I would do the same.
That rose is amazing. I shall have to wait some time as my roses aren't well established yet but will certainly be on the lookout in the future.  :)
@Fran IOM,..one large bag of dried food 2.5kg per week,..i don't recall the cost but i didn't mind and as you wrote,..you would do the same,.. it was great to see them all getting stuck in.

Its easier to take a cutting or do a graft than any other way of producing another  rose bush,..i think i am addicted to taking cuttings.

@Purplerain,..LOL,..and i really did laugh out loud,..you are 'D',..i was trying to work it out by process of elimination and got it down to just two members.

Shame it didn't work out with your feral kitten but glad your son took her on board despite she still being at the ready to claw people.

I never expect members to use their real name unless they give it in a username and even then i feel cautious about posting it,..as for me its different due to me using it in YouTube for so many years.

  • My next door neighbour died in 2016,..she was 87,..loved flowers but no idea about gardening,..so i decided to give her any excess plants i had and plant them of course,..i ended up really having two gardens though i didn't mind in fact i enjoyed it,..below is a mixed nasturtium i decided to grow upwards on a cane instead of letting it cascade downwards.

  • @nultyphilip224 Those cats look beautiful, Philip, but I can tell they are a tough bunch :)

I can't believe how friendly your cats are with each other. We tried to adopt a second cat but our Tommy just wouldn't accept any other cat in the house. Otherwise he is so calm and friendly, but not if it's about his territory being invaded :(

  • Oh yeah, and that rose from seed - unbelievable. And in less than one year!

@Big Blue Sky,..my oldest cat trained all the others how to behave,..while i had two litter trays left out none of the cats used them or soiled in the house,..they would come inside have a sleep or when ill they would stay for a few days all under the watchful eyes of the older cat,..she was smaller than any of the others but ruled the roost,..all of the cats and kittens were friendly with each other and my two dogs.

So your Tommy wouldn't accept any other cat,..some cats are very territorial while others like company.

Oh about the rose grown from the rose hip,..the second image date should read May 27th.

Ah! Lovely photos, we've always had cats and a dog or two. The two we now have will be the last, unless we get one to grow old with us!
Ps. The rescued rose is allowed to stay with me,she can see it from her kitchen window so that's good!

Love to see cats and dogs together. Our Labrador and cat get on well but I have yet to see them sleep together.
Love your idea with the nasturtiums @nultyphilip224. I planted seeds the year before last and decided not to bother last year, although they are so colourful, but they still came up despite the fact I thought I had got rid of them. Have yet to remove them as they are choking a lot of other plants. Will consider your idea this year if I can find the room. No doubt the others will make a reappearance.
@Valley Gardener If I were without a cat now I would have to have an old rescued one as too old myself for a kitten.  :)
