Thanks..........I didn't realise they needed to be covered/in darkness, that's where I've been going wrong.
I will send you some 'Bluebird Delphinium Seeds',..they are the tall dark bloom ones you see below,..enough to experiment with.

I was very pleased with them this year,..no Slugs to be seen helped them start well and canes positioned in time resulted in no breaks or fallen plants.
  • I agree, you just have to see what's coming up! One of my bigger mistakes this year, was to wait to see what all these lovely tall grassy shoots were.......turned out to be some sort of grain or oats from the bird seed!!!😁
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.

Your garden must smell divine...........beautiful healthy plants, how do you keep on top of all the dead-heading?  Lovely music too.
I just read your post about the rose hip seedling........amazing outcome!

Lol,..your not the only one that fell for that,..two years ago i was feeding the birds various seeds and of course they dropped into the soil,..so come Spring all sorts of shoots popped up,..thinking i might get something useful i let them grow,..nothing but grasses and corn,..it took the entire season to get rid of them,..now i feed the birds Suet Balls,..suet droppings all over the ground.

It does smell very nice though one gets used to it,..when i have a visitor then i am more aware as its fresh to them and they are overcome,..ah yes dead heading is a full time job but its well worth the effort,..that rose hip seedling was truly a great find,..now that i am aware it could happen again i am keeping my eyes open,..what was amazing was to see the small seedling,..rapidly grow from something so small into a rose bush,..thanks for the nice comment on the video.
  • We had a rat coming to the bird table,he would jump from the wall to the table,so the table got moved, and I stopped putting things on it,just stuck to the hanging stuff.Hes disappeared now, maybe as next door has a rifle! However I think all this so called 'wildbird seed' I will give a miss now,as when you look at it it seems more for big birds! Hence big plants when they drop it or the wind blows it!! I'm sure the little birds get all they need from the fat ball/suet block thingys, and a few mealworms.

Oh you don't need a rat calling for food as it will tell its friends where there is food going,..as for big birds stealing all the food on the small ones,..i have one of those long containers that hold four Suet Balls,..the four would be eaten in a day,..big birds of course scoffing the lot,..so i clipped two wire hanging baskets opening to opening,..with the Suet Ball feeder inside,..only the small birds could get access,..Crows were the main big bird visitors,..Starlings aplenty.
