Could I be cheeky and ask you for a few of the perennial s.pea seeds?  You posted a pic of the plant and it looks lovely, even if they are unscented.
Love your lillies by the way, definitely one of my 10 ten favourite plants, for both flower and scent.
  • They are all beautiful, but Tiger mix is my favourite.
You would think the deep purple ones would be scented wouldn't you?

I also have been having a mooch round today looking for seed pods,I found some from next doors Aquilegia that were hanging over my side! Also put some Marigold ones in an envelope.I'm not mad about Marigolds but they have been a great space filler this year.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.

Yes i expected the 'Lily Dimension' to be scented,..i suppose the dark colour made me think 'Chocolate',..lol.

I was sorting out seeds today,..gosh if you could see the amount i have,.. astonishing,..Delphiniums produce a mass of seeds as do Foxgloves and Aquilegia,..i tend to dump seeds that are two years old though they are in a sealed plastic container and nothing wrong with them,..its just that each year produces so much that i can do this.

My parents had Marigolds,..i loved collecting the seeds and they produce lots of seeds to keep me busy and out of mischief :).

Anything that blooms and can be used as a space filler makes up a good garden,..i have gone mad on Ferns.
  • Just something of interest,..my Vivarium.

I could never manage to get a plant that would remain small,..even Hens and Chicks grew too fast so i have an Aloe which i replace once a year,..'be led astray by the hanging rug,..its just something i picked up abroad.

Thank you I will send pm.  I never seem to be able to gather seeds, by chance I spotted pansy seeds a few weeks back, but they are the first seeds I've ever saved.  I'm waiting for wallflower seed heads to dry before picking.
Have you any tips on getting delphinium seeds to germinate?
  • I found some Clarkia seed pods this morning,I didn't plant the Clarkia,so it must've been an odd one or two in with the cornflowers. I've got purple Petunias popping up in odd places too! They must have seeded in the garden on their own, belonging to the previous house owner.

Gathering seeds will grow on you lol,..i mean when your first saved seeds are sown and germinate into seedlings then planted out in the garden and you see the results,..you will want to do this with all your plants.

I gather Delphinium Seeds every year and tend to give them all away rather than produce plants from them.

Once i have a mature Delphinium i can take cuttings or divide.

I cut back my Delphiniums to ground level,..they will grow again in the same season and sometimes will bloom again,..i wait until the plant or plants are about 30 cm high then take about 15 cm cuttings,..dip in Rooting Powder/Gel and keep in the greenhouse until next Spring,..after the last frost i plant out,..this is easier than Germinating from seeds.

However sowing seeds in a pot or tray,..moisten seed compost in a tray,..lay a mix of a light layer of vermiculite and seed compost on top of the seeds,..cover with kitchen foil and keep indoors or in a greenhouse until germination takes place,..usually in less than three weeks,..then remove the foil and replace it with a glass or plastic dome or cloche type cover to keep soil moist,..plant out in Spring,..if you start this process about six weeks before Spring all should be well,..Slugs and Snails love young Delphiniums so start killing off those critters just before Spring and keep doing so once a week thereafter,..you wont have any problem for the remainder of that season.

Its great to find something like your Seed Pods,..plus the Petunias popping up here and there,..it really does pay to study what is coming up,..my best find was a Rose Hip on the surface with a minute seedling protruding from it,..i potted it and within that summer had a nice pink rose bloom,..i should have prevented it blooming but i needed to see what rose would appear,..it has well matured since then and the result is as below,..its not like any of my other roses,..that can be the outcome from seeds or cuttings.

Thanks..........I didn't realise they needed to be covered/in darkness, that's where I've been going wrong.
