Wow, it must be very mild where you are.  Although I would imagine you have created a micro-climate in your beautiful garden
  • Mild enough in Winter but overheated in Summer,..this present Summer in particular,..the Snapdragon that flowered non stop since last summer is below.

Another new bloom of late below,..Lavatera 'Baby Barnsley',..reminds me always of Hibiscus 'Woodbridge',..due to its colours.

Chinese Lantern,..hoping to see it mature this year as it remained green in 2016.

I was just on the Sarah Raven site..........perhaps that is the green chinese lantern?
  • @Mary370,..if we get enough sun within the next four weeks i am hoping for a bright orange lantern  :),..the plant is imprisoned in a container,..much as i like it i don't want it to spread its roots in every direction.

    Hollyhock and visiting Bee.

Orange Lily,..in bloom for the first time since grown from seeds from Oregon USA,..alas i am now sure this is a 'Day Lily',.. attractive yes but i disposed of all mine a few years ago as they were taking up too much space.

    Hydrangea and Geranium.

Variegated Mint 'Plectranthus madagascariensis or Madagascar spurflower',..due to its name i seldom post it though it has a nice strong scent,..i placed it where one has no choice but to brush against it in walking the path.

    Phlox and Geranium.

  • That Dahlia really IS Fabulous!!
I was reading in a gardening mag this week that now is the time to collect your Antirrhinum seeds from the ones in the garden.I went to do this but left it as they aren't dried off yet. Can I pick the pods off and put them to dry? Also will the low growing Verbena flower next year,or will I need to take cuttings? I have a beautiful dark purple one  which I'd like to keep. Thank you in advance Philip!😁

  • @Valley Gardener,..if your Seed Pods are big enough to have seeds you can collect them,..take them inside and place them on Kitchen Towel,..not touching each other is wise,..when the Pods have gone brown and dry you can remove the seeds,..the Seed Pods should be hard not supple before removing seeds.

Your 'Verbena',..as far as i know Verbena are Perennial,..therefore yours should be appearing again next season,..however i am not familiar with 'Low Growing Verbena',..i presume they are also 'Perennial',..cuttings are easy to grow be they be from just taking root in water,.. or take a cutting just below a node,..dip in Rooting Powder or Rooting Gel,..place in a pot of soil,..cover with a plastic bag to keep soil moist and cuttings should take in about six weeks,..growing cuttings in Summer is slower to take than in Spring which is much quicker.
  • Doggy Walk.

Lots of morning and evening mists have the grass wet and the odd Leech leaves the water to wander.

    Tourist Tour Boat,..'Viking Queen'.

Always a Blue Heron to be seen.

    Water Hen.

    Peacock on Water Mint Bloom.

    One happy dog.

  • Thank you for the great advice re seed pods and cuttings. That is a great help.

Very nice pics,I love Foxy Molly's little smiling face! She is one happy doggie!
I don't think I've ever seen a real leech, only in movies like the African Queen!!

We see an occasional Heron flying up the valley, following the river,we are so high up we look down on him!

  • @Valley Gardener,..I was collecting 'Sweet Pea Seed Pods',..last week and this week,..these are from 'Sweet Pea Perennial',..its the second collection so far though not as many just now but there will be more,..its just in case anyone wants seeds,..some pods from last week are already brown and ready to open.

Most years after my Delphiniums have finished flowering i cut them back to soil level,..if the weather remains good into late September they will bloom a second time,..though i mostly do this to get the young shoots to use as cuttings,..a four inch cutting dipped in Rooting Powder/Gel  will do the job,.. then leave them in a pot in the greenhouse until next Spring,..those below were cut back to soil level,..they have grown again very quickly.

Last blooms from the Lily Family.

    Tiger Mix and heavily scented.

    Not Scented.
