I have sciatica and it keeps raining so gardening is very behind. Was sunny earlier today so I was going to try some clearing up of beds but found a flood in the boiler room, water softener gone wrong. Spent some time mopping up.
Then the rain started so I did a lot of potting on of seedlings in the GH. Also sowed runner beans, courgettes and cucumbers.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I went to the PT to sow some seeds only to find it had suddenly got so warm in tehre the lettuce and cabbage plugs had flopped so emergency dunking of those and all seed trays already sown which took ages. Trotted off to to cut the grass but pranged the mower on some Provençal cane that's shooting thru and had to wait for OH to come back from golf practice to help me lift it. Then the pesky thing lost its belt drive round the back of the ruin where the grass is growing incredibly thick and fast and clearly too much! That's a job for OH too but he was out walking the dogs.
Tomorrow then. Pellleted my roses and clems in pots and found one clem being chewed by slugs or snails so Escar-Go has been applied. Time to cook dinner now.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Went to an open day at a nursery and found a reasonable priced twisted hazel, been after one for ages but expensive in the garden centre so have kept putting it off.
My next door neighbours have been having some landscaping done and as a result have a new fence so spent some time lowering the soil level in my bed so it doesn't rot quite so quickly as the last one. Put a pot in place for the hazel to go into for the time being.
Also put back my plants that were rescued before the fence building started.
Cleared the surface moss from what the blackbirds have been digging up in the lawn, if you can call it that! There was so much and now have some patchy areas but at least the birds should have some warm nests 😀
This is my second spring in the garden and realised I need to think about spring much more as not much colour other than green but the anticipation of what is to come is exciting, the tulips will be next I think.
So excited for my alliums to flower, I can see the flower stalks now shooting up even if some are in completely the wrong place!
The little pond area is coming together.
as is my rose bed and bought another rose for it today, can't remember the name though, I somehow think this bed will be getting bigger in the near future.
And finally, planted another variety of lavender around my palm tree, not sure if this is ok but they seem to be cohabiting just fine. So far favourite variety is "Vera" followed by "Hidcote" didn't realised that lavender varieties could smell so different.
A warm sunny day, a complete turnaround from the gloom earlier in the week. Tried not to go mad ! Pricked out antirhinum and cosmos seedlings, also planted up 2 hanging baskets with trillion bells "Celebration". Presumably trillion bells are even better than million bells. Moved pots of tulips into various locations, and finally washed a load of plastic pots and labels. Time for a cup of tea and celebratory digestive.
Watered or sprayed all the plants in the conservatory - daft at the middle of the day but they were flagging under the heat. Prepared one granite trough for some bedding plants and also 2 x ragged robbin white flowered. Mostly worked on the pond adding some floating plants that arrived this morning. Our newts will be happy - they needed more coverage from the sun!
I hesitate now to share my meagre post of what constitutes my gardening for the day. I have 2 small hanging baskets which are wayyyy past their best (falling apart) but hard to find that size. Today I saw that someone had discarded theirs AND yep, same size! So I 'repotted' my 2 baskets that had some young plants in them, e.g. muscari and baby fuschia. Since the matting looked dull, I oiled them (some olive oil past its use by date!)
Also watered the newly sown wildflowerbed patch (in my lawn meadow) with a watering can and a shower head attachment.
A 'weed' is just a plant in the wrong place - subjective!
Scarifying, lawn cutting, repotting sage and mint, chipped the last of the wood, mowed up the rotting laurel leaves (unbelievably four branches are still green since last August and two sprouting roots!) into the leaf mould pile, and took the baby out to see everything while I watered everything.
You've worked hard Tinpot, judging by the amount of scarifying done!! Well done! I've put my sweet pea plants in,with another seed next to each.Planted Ernest Markham,by the arch, and Arabella to scramble around the bird table and over stumps. My rambling rose has so far come to nothing, but what can you expect from Poundland!I'll leave it for a while just in case it's due to the cold. My neighbour gave me two fatball holders he had made,so it was nice to chat over the garden fence after so long in hibernation! Like you AnniD,I tried not to overdo it,so came in earlier than I would've liked for tea and digestive!!! I hope you've all enjoyed the sun and your gardens today!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.

Thanks, I’m thinking of planting the sweet peas next week but might plant some tomorrow. Not sure how many I’ll need to train over an arch.
Not sure scarifying by hand is something I’ll ever do again, but who cares? I’m relaxing with wine now
