Was going to go to plot today as Mums car fixed back from garage ( so dont have to get lift from Dad so much as Mum helps out with plot even though Dad does help sometimes) so gave it a good clean inside in boot as car been leaking in boot and left over bits of bird food gone mould and smelly so now cleaned up with a nice vanilla air freshner in, was so windy out while trying making car better gave up going to allotment as would be more windy there with field next door - so tomorrow will try get to plot trying to clear area for fruit tree planting
Yesterday got a bird house open fronted for garden as saw two wrens in garden so nice, also a window feeder to see if any birds come near the house

Hope you get your fruit tree's in soon, Gg. I planted up a hedge this week in my back garden and moved some fruit bushes, both had begun to grow shoots.

Went to the plot today, in between showers planted out broad beans and more shallots. The beans germinated in a cold GH in Feb and look a lot more healthier than those sown in Oct/Nov.

Sowed some veg and flowers in the GH, all hardy varieties, some can be sown outdoors, which always amazes me that they will germinate in cold soil, but some leeks have come up in the GH. Sowed broad beans, brussels, cabbage, kale and red spinach.

I'm warming up some soil for the first wave of pea's to go out.

Zoomer I have buds on the plum tree at plot in ground - pear tree was starting so got that planted last week just to clear the area for apple tree still in pot in garden and a pear I have picked out from a neighbours friend up the road has started budding - the plum and apple have no budds starting yet for volunteer garden will get them out planted soon
I put in a few broad beans in spaces where ones did not come up last week that is it for seed sowing so far
Pound stretcher have bare roots for £4.99, Aldi had a few last week when looked - my pear was from Aldi last year

Gg. Excellent value for money. Think my fruit tree's were from Aldi and Asda.

You'll need to be mindful of late frosts if your fruit tree's flower early. I've not had a single cherry from two fruit tree's as they've been caught by frost.

Allotment this morning just generally tidying around, and I think I have come up with the solution to stop my cloches blowing away.

I fill old 4lt milk bottles with sand, then tie two bottles together by there handles with 6mm nylon rope the rope then fits tight over the cloche with a bottle on either side these are then spaced along the run.

I did a few experiments this morning as it was quite breeze and seemed to work fine I will take a photo next time I'm at the allotment.

Hampshire Hog. I use plastic bottles for cloches, just push them, as far as I can into the soli and hope and pray they don't blow away. I made some extra cloches this year from bits of wood and an old plastic cover from my blow away GH. I'll take some pics over the weekend to post if I go to the plot, it's forecast rain though.

Gg. The gooseberry bush in the back garden is in bud, the one on the plot can sometimes be a couple of weeks later to bud.

I've been potting up at home today. Most of the toms have two true leaves, chillies and peppers close behind but aubergines are being very slow.

Also sown some dwarf peas which don't need support, thought they'd be good to grow in front of the main crop peas. It's a hardy variety which can be sown either October time or February.

Gardner's World starts tonight, always a sign than the growing season is here :)

GWRS. Never been to a football match and not an avid supporter of any team but a friend has a Man City season ticket and her grandson, a Morecambe Season Ticket. I'm told the language isn't for the faint hearted but a home match for either team is an experience not to be missed.

The lesser one being best to go to first, before going to watch a big team so on that basis I've been roped into watching Morecambe's next home match :)

Sowed more seeds in GH today on the plot.
