Yeah Pdoc....I watched the documentary on iPlayer about the making of FTONY ....there was even a great short interview with the great JP Donleavy ....so miss Kirsty , tragic end. But Shane .....just keeps on melting his liver !
Son did some sound engineering for Shane McGowan years ago ... he' always said he's a really nice chap once you get talking to him ... he still wears his Pogues mahone teeshirt ... you'll have to google or ask Dacha for the translation ... I'm too shy

I remember the hoohah over Pogue Mahone when they started, and the change of name. I imagine your son probably saw more of Shane than the audience did - I've heard he's OK for sound checks but 'unwell' by the time the actual gig starts... that was certainly the case at the Kirsty MacColl memorial gigs I've been to, and I got the impression that was situation normal. Still, good on him for surviving.

I saw the Pogues 4 or 5 times and they varied between brilliant and terrible, but were always exciting.
I also saw my all time fave, Joe Strummer, stand in for Shane on one occasion when he was " taking a break " .
