MORNING. love your tale of strange named towns. Hosta.
we got rained on. 3 mm between load 1 and load 2 of washing. It’s now dry though.
There was a fluttering in the wood heater a few minutes ago, luckily it was cold. I rescued a little swallow. There is a photo coming, but hubby has it on his camera, not the iPad, so I’ll have to wait until it’s downloaded.
Enjoy your visits with grandchildren LilyP and Liri - sometimes its the impromptu visits that are the best .
Busy week at work this week. But we have Anne Swithinbank coming to talk at garden club this week and I am determined not to miss it .....even if I have to go with my laptop in tow
We had a disaster in the early hours of Saturday. I got up for the loo at 4am and the electricity was off, then I heard a noise like torrential rain. Water was pouring from a bathroom upstairs through the wooden ceiling into the family room below. I turned off the mains tap, then, as it was dark and night time, I turned to go back upstairs to bed. My leg shot out behind me on the wet tiles and I fell heavily onto the wooden staircase. Very sore ribs, must have twisted them because later I found a big bruise above my hip. Couldn't lie down, too sore, had to sleep sitting up.
I rang the insurance in the morning, they were shut for the weekend, but their emergency service sent a plumber in the afternoon. A flexible pipe under the wash basin had burst, badly fitted over 20 years ago, before we were here, causing a weak spot. The electricity is OK now, it had turned off because water got into a socket board.
We spent Saturday mopping up and putting furniture into the garden, luckily it was a lovely day. A friend came to help, she was great. She used my carpet shampooer to suck up water from the carpets, there was buckets and buckets. I was too sore to use the machine on Saturday. Some of the furniture is badly stained from water going through the dark stained wooden ceiling.
I've rung the insurance this morning. They said an assessor must come, but it wouldn't be this week. That seems a long delay to me. Insurance man said I must arrange for someone to come to dry it out, but I don't know of anyone round here. He's looking into it and will ring back later.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all. Busy weekend with meetings, collecting other half from train station (jet lag has hit him worse this time but I think mostly because of the differences in temperature).
BUT he actually brought me gifts this time! (Last time he went, missed my birthday, and brought me back a hotel toothbrush). So I am now the proud owner of a silly purse and a scarf that "must be good as all the women were wearing them".
BL that sounds horrendous! But I can't believe it'll take them a week to send someone out to inspect it. Take plenty of photographs so you can show the assessor because clearly you're going to be trying to do something about the damage before they arrive so they'll not see it at it's worse.
I hope you get a specialist crew in soon to start drying things out. The last thing you want is the damp to creep across plaster.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Oh Busy, that's two disasters.....flooding and your fall
A paste of olive oil and salt is good for dealing with water marks on furniture.
Hope the insurance company gets off the mark pronto.

Do keep safe.
