I wish I had a photo: I was pinning a honeysuckle back this morning and a leaf cutter landed in front of me, cut the arch-shaped leaf sharpish and headed back to the bee home. A privilege to watch.
Just lovely Chris - a privilege indeed. Maybe you'll be lucky next time with a photo I'm feeling very privileged too, since Monday, although not with a bee - but a hedgehog...and her two babies The foot [ and bum! ] of one of the babies They're all tucked in behind some shrubs/ferns in a little narrow bed I have along the back fence Managed to disturb a little grasshopper too, when I watered a plant he was hiding in
Saw a Hedgehog in the garden last night as we were going to bed, first for many a year, hope it is staying, it was on the slab under the bird feeders, enjoying I presume seed dropped by the birds,
What have I done wrong, I see my name above the hedgehog pics and I only wanted to respond, sorry, as is written below.
You've pressed quote [from my post ] so it's shown all of my post in yours cornelly. Hope your one stays too - lovely to have them. Fab photos wild edges. My camera doesn't take very good macro shots, but it's not too big an issue for me as it's primarily for my hillwalks. I suppose I could get a smart phone for using in the garden, but I really can't be bothered!

Thanks for telling me Fairy Girl, I will try and be responsible in future, it will be good to have the hedgehog since the extended building of houses we have lost some wildlife, even birds are taking a different flight path.
I had an extension done a couple of years ago too, cornelly and I'm gradually building up more nooks and crannies for everything, but the hedgehogs have literally just appeared in the last couple of weeks. One of the neighbours has had all their old tatty fencing removed and the chaps have been doing some hefty work for a few weeks, and I wonder if they've been in a neighbouring garden [under a shed or something] and it just disturbed them. No one really has much of a garden round here - fences and sheds and not much else. I'm hoping they stay and keep coming to get fed. I'm like an anxous new mum with them! I've been reading up about the feeding though, and they say seeds and nuts aren't good for them - an occasional one dropped from a bird feeder is ok though. I bought the proper hedgehog food etc, and built a feeding station for them, especially as there's two little ones. Might be worth your while doing something similar to encourage them in.

Only feed sunflower hearts and song bird seed, found nuts a no go, our garden is up to about 100 yards long, it is four parcels of land, acquired some time back, with a trees including a lovely Oak, shrubbery and beds, a veg plot which is suffering with the prolonged dry sunny weather, needs watering each evening to keep the veg growing, little rain we have had hasn't done much good, do have a glasshouse and sheds.
Sounds brilliant cornelly. I think you'll have no bother getting all the brids back in soon. Strangely, I've found the peanut feeder a waste of time this winter too. I mainly feed the same as you, and I have feeders inside a cage for all the small birds which means they get a chance to have their breakfast instead of all the bigger birds pinching it all. I've put water out for them in a dish too, even though they have access to the pond shallows. Belt and braces
