  • Oh the poor dear/deer! Lovely picture, you are so lucky to have this beautiful visitor.  Keep an eye on it Steephill, like most of us the creatures in the garden will be suffering in this heat and whilst we can reach for a drink whenever we feel the need, most of these animals and plants rely on us to provide the moisture.

A TV addict turtle dove has made its "nest" on my neighbour's TV aerial. You can hardly call it a nest, just a few twigs put together, but you can spot some flowers on the right in the close-up, for decorative purposes. ;)

It's been sitting there for quite a few days, in the heat, while I keep to the shade.

That's brilliant! Just shows - we can do all we like with fancy nest boxes, and making the 'perfect' environment for all sorts of creatures, but in the end - they just build where they want  :D
Lovely pix steephill. They're great - until they eat everything in your garden!
Mary - on hills they scarper when you're still miles away [red deer] because they can pick up your scent so easily, unless you're upwind of them. Makes it hard to get good photos.
Except for the ones in Glen Etive - which will nick your food given half the chance. They like chocolate digestives apparently...   :D
I startled a mum with her two little 'uns on a hill one day. I was just lucky to get a couple of shots before they skedaddled at a great rate of knots

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I would dearly love to see a turtle dove. They are more or less gone from the UK. Are they still plentiful in France?

I posted these on PJ's Insect thread, but I thought I'd share them here too.

And a new shot, not featured on PJ's thread, of a Cinnamon Bug.

I'm sorry to report that the turtle dove has decided to give up on its Tv aerial nest, and has moved away!

Excellent. What kind of lens? Been thinking of getting a lens for macro stuff for my old Canon 40D.
