Got the impression these were like solitary wasps but they were hanging out in a small group on a dead growing tip in the garden this evening. Only ever seen them on their own previously but counted six in this group. Any one know if they are just taking a rest together or are they doing something specific?

It's hard to tell but they look like one of the blood bees and possibly males by the white fur on the face. Was there any sap or anything like that on the twig that might have attracted them?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I found the ivy bee sleeping on the eryngium last night and checked on it first thing this morning to see if I could get some photos before it got too active. It was very obliging
