Ha ha josusa47, that is so funny........ It is surprising what is around when you look closely, and this is a great thread and a good time of year to be snapping pictures of these wonderful insects.
A couple of pictures for today, I think the black furry caterpillars will be Peacock butterflies if they manage to survive until next Spring, sorry I can't remember the name of the butterfly on the pansies - can you help me to identify it please?
I don't know echinacea purpurea White Prairie Papi Jo, but they look lovely and the Vanessa a and red Ad. seem to enjoy feasting on it. Is the plant a perennial? We have Echinacea Pink Parasol and the bees seem to be on the flower all day - for hours at a time.
I saw a cartoon years ago which really tickled me: two caterpillars on a leaf, a butterfly flying over, and one caterpillar says to the other: "You'd never get me up in one of those".
It's a fab picture KOG, what a great find. We have the giant grasshoppers - they look similar but not the same.Sorry the picture isn't great - it was difficult to make out the shape against the green foliage.

@GD2,
Lovely bunch of black furry caterpillars you've got here. Let's hope at least a few get to the butterfly stage!
More insects captured today on my Echinacea purpurea JS® 'White Prairie'...
Cetonia aurata, rose chafer beetle
Vanessa atalanta, the red admiral butterfly

@GD2 and josusa47,
Definitely not a painted lady Vanessa cardui.
Looks more like a 'wall' or 'wall brown butterfly', Lasiommata megera to me.
Miserable grey day here in London but this cheered me up. Grasshopper on Sedum Telegraph Teak
Hi KOG, your Grasshopper is a Green Bush Cricket, it maybe the Speckled variety.
