The underwings are nice @Dovefromabove. I had a little yellow one a few years ago on the gravel. He was very well camouflaged, like a little mothy Where's Wally, so I'm not sure if I've seen any since.... ;)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Looks like we've maxed this thread out @Papi Jo do you want to start another one?

Thanks for mentioning this, @wild edges .
I had not envisaged the success of this topic when I started this discussion. You have largely contributed to it lately, hehe.
Yes of course I can start a "season 2" discussion. By the way, what is the rule here? Is there a max of posts or pages per discussion?

The general rule seems to be to start a new thread when the old one gets over 100 pages and 1000 posts. I'm not sure why though.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

They used to say it was to prevent threads loading slowly, but I'm not sure it's actually the case. There's a rose thread which has something like 3,000 posts on it.

Thanks for your replies, @wild edges & @Fairygirl
I think I'll wait a little before starting a "season 2" thread, then.

  • The bees are going crazy  out here in the high humidity and pause in the  rain, There is apparently a nest nearby but the ground is rough bog so no exploring. Lots of thick gorse bushes and fuchsias and ruins.

I could not linger to take a photo as the infamous island midge ( they use the singular here) are out for blood and I am badly bitten for just a few minutes.

I lived up in Orkney for years and they are unspeakable there. Grown men, local farmers, would refuse to go outside and the sheep would go crazy. The same kind of terrain; boggy turf and low vegetation. Here when the wind drops and the sky is cloudy and oppressive.  Love watching the bees though..
