Fully grown Vapourer Moth caterpillar.  Dazzling aren't they! :)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    Thank you @BobTheGardener
I actually had to look her up - wow, hopefully she sticks around my garden so I can see he when she becomes a real flying moth 😊

Lovely critter that Vapourer Moth caterpillar!
Here are my insects of the day, captured between two showers of rain. We are getting much too much rain these days where I live.
Shield bug Dolycoris baccarum tastefully resting on assorted Penstemon 'garnet'!
    Oedemera nobilis aka swollen-thighed beetle

    Oedemera nobilis with little friend
  • Some of the more unusual insects Papi Jo, lovely pictures too - are these insects regularly seen in your garden?

Actually those insects are quite common both in the wild and in my garden. But many insects go unseen, other than butterflies and damsel flies. You have to be on the lookout. ;)

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Papilio machaon (caterpillar on Ruta graveolens)
Six-spot burnet (Zygaena filipendulae) on flowers of seaside fleabane (Erigeron glaucus)

I had a small tortoiseshell feeding on one of my pincushion scabious this lunchtime. Also I had a wool carder bee having a nap on a alium. It finally flew off late mornings Ng having been there overnight.
